Re: How much velocity do you need to comfortably reach 300 meters range with a cannon?
At an average walking speed, it'll probably take you between 3 and five minutes, longer if it's uphill. The limiting factor is going to be how heavy the cannon is, but you can probably mitigate that by fitting it with wheels, at that point it's all down to terrain. Sensible answer, it depends, among...

Spherical interior vortex block
A while back I started tweaking the design of a standard vortex block. I'm not sure what the specific design style would be called, but I'll just keep this simple and call it a 'block'. The typical design allows the bbs to continue spinning around the center hole until they 'find' the outlet. With 3...

Re: Complex yet small regulator with multiple preset options possible?
It sounds like you just need a venting regulator if I'm reading correctly.

Old link format redirect?
Hey everyone, I love this site and have lurked for probably a decade now. I've used the resources here to design some lovely hybrid launchers and think the info here is still really valuable to hobbyists and engineers. One thing I've noticed recently is that most links to old topics are unusable – t...

Re: Old link format redirect?
"Does anyone know if it would be possible for the site owners to redirect old URL formats to the correct threads?" It has to be done manually one by one and yes website migration breaks links.

Seeking Expert Design Optimization Guidance
Hello Gents, I am relatively new to this forum and I would really appreciate any guidance you guys may have regarding optimizing my design. The goal of this project is to launch soda cans (2.6" OD /weight: 13 OZ) at the greatest velocity possible. I have been using the HGDT calculator and I think I ...

DIY nerf rocket launcher
Air cannon overview.jpg I love target shooting, and continue to enjoy the hobby, and I also enjoying engineering and building new things. For my latest build, I wanted something powerful that I could also safely use at a park. Multi-shot capability was a requirement as I didn’t want to have to repr...

Re: Dose UKARA cover spud guns in the uk
A spud gun is not an airsoft gun, so I'd say it's extremely unlikely. IANAL, obviously, but given the way things in the UK are going, a spud gun is more likely to get classified by the lads in the penis hats as being an improvised firearm, the sort of thing that could quite feasibly get you 5 years ...

High pressure 50cal rifle
I posted some time ago showcasing a high pressure 'Toolie' style valve I built out of stainless steel. This is the progression of that project. I'm sorry for making a new post, but I figured it'd be easier than modifying my old one. Feel free to move this if needed. shown below is the valve assembly...

Re: High pressure 50cal rifle
Here are photos of 2 test shots done today, in Feet Per Second
Done at 2000psi The mass of this last shot is 147grain. This gives an energy of ~230ftlb. Not too shabby for a bit under half pressure.

Re: High pressure 50cal rifle
Obviously looks great! Speaking to the silencer, are you planning to use the extra length of lower tube for expansion volume? If you're beating your head against the wall trying to figure out how to rifle the barrel, and you have a 3d printer, you can take a look at electrochemical rifling . Good jo...

Re: High pressure 50cal rifle
Thank you! This has been a fun project so far. I believe I'm going to (sorry for the pun) bite the bullet and purchase a .50 barrel/barrel liner to make one with. In an effort to maximize performance, I believe a professionally built (read "highly consistent bore") barrel will be my best bet. As for...

Re: Ideal C:B ratio?
The 0.8:1 ratio comes from burntlatke's testing where chamber volume was held constant and barrel volume was changed, which effectively found the longest barrel length that could efficiently use a certain chamber size.. It is worth noting, however, that latke was using potatoes for projectiles and ...

Increasing chamber size up to a certain point will just lose efficiency. You coul...
