ice as ammo [question mark]
After an unsuccsesful attempt at making my cannon shoot snow, I have been thinking about ice. Ice will not break apart after leaving the barrel like show does, and is completley biodegradable (duh). My cannon has a small 1" dia. barrel, so i have mounted a small section of 1" dia. pvc on a wooden stand and it is in my freezer full of water right now. If the barrel is heated up slightly, the outer layer of ice would melt, causing the ice to hydroplane through the barrel! I think it would get good velocity. When it is frozen i will test it. Maybe post some damage pics too...
With snow, I would suggest a sabot or wadding and use a large (2" or 3") barrel. Be careful heating the pvc. It is better to lubricate it before it is placed in the freezer.
But it does make for very nice damages

I would love to see some damage pictures of this. I thought about doing this but there has been only one snowfall here the whole year. Be careful with pvc in the cold, I'm assuming you're using a pneumatic because a combustion won't shoot ice, don't drop it and warm it up between shots

Why wouldn't a combustion shoot ice? Get a good chunk and it's not like it's gonna melt. I think you'd be better off just dipping th eice in warm water rather than heating the barrel, but if you do go with the latter, I'd suggest a rag or washcloth soaked in hot (not boiling) water. Ice would make a good projectile. The density is good and it's about as hard as concrete.

Haha, nice. If you wanted, you could make a little wax paper sabot for the ice and minimize the amount of water that gets into the chamber.

Well I'll second that suggestion, there's a lot of things I wouldn't suggest you do whilst inebriated. Not that I have any personal experience with them mind you.

I agree with PVC Arsenal, pykrete is much stronger and takes FOREVER to melt. Just search it, i think there are quite a few topics on it. Good luck, cant wait to see pictures.

Ive done this a lot, I used excess pieces of my barrel size and filled em' with water and froze them. Actually in my freezer right now is a 20 gauge shell filled with ice Also don't ask me why I have stuck a pickle in some pvc and in the freezer, you pop it out and you've got a pickle slug! Freeze potatoes also
Ice makes great ammo, and with a powerful cannon it turns into shrapnel when it hits the target, greatly adding to visual effect. I have some 3" bore, 12" long ice slugs in the freezer, but I can't test them until it warms up (because setting up the SCTBDC in the cold is a real b*tch).
As far as actual damage goes though, Pykrete would easily beat ice.
