Ok, I just made this dart, and decided to post it because it is b-e-a-utiful (Bruce Almighty). It's made the same way as some of the other darts I've posted but it's different in the folowing ways-
#1 Size- old darts were 1/2", this is 3/4"
#2 Tip- old darts had regular, dull nails tips, this has a custom-smithed arrow tip (pliers, propane torch, hammer)
#3 the old darts were for cans, boxes, etc. This one is for taking down Godzillas :D :D

I'd say you should have just bumped the old topic and updated the first post... but other than that, verry nice. Can't wait to see how these/what they're being shot at hold up.

Jiminy Christmas man that thing would sail right through several things I can think of at the moment. I'll be curious as to how well balanced it and your others are while flying through the air...tumble etc.

I think he either tossed them by hand, or used a length of pipe like a blowgun.

I would have said this didn't deserve a topic because it was just a slightly rehashed version of a ubiquitous item. Then I realised that almost everything I build falls into that category...

So, good job. Now scale it up to 3" and add fins and a discarding sabot, and you'll have yourself a genuine hand-crafted KEP:

HOT-DAMN!

I must build one of those and fire it at 1/2" steel plates.
Until then, my life will not be complete.

The one pictured is more of a showpiece than anything - the fins aren't properly secured, the sabot is too impractical to produce at any decent rate, and the tip isn't even hardened yet.

Making these rounds isn't really all that difficult, but the fins would work better if they were 1/8" or so aluminum, and the casing should probably some sort of plastic. There's a lot of wasted mass in that design.

Speaking of casing, what seals and centers the dart in the original post of this thread? There's no visible method of doing either in the picture. My dart uses a solid, low density sabot in the back to seal in the barrel and reduce stress on its fins, and the obvious sabot and fins to center it (the sabot splits in half and discards on exiting the barrel).
