"Jello Shot"

Me and my friend were rumaging through his basement when we came across egg-shaped jello molds. We made egg shape jello that fit perfectly in 1.5" Pipe. What a great pun. We haven't test fired it yet, too cold. I was wondering if the explosion would rip through it. (Combustion Cannon.)

i might work if the jello was knox jelatin in a thicker formula like balistics gel (i mentioned(sp) in a different forum)

I really do not think it would work if it was household food jello. If the explosion didnt rip it apart I would expect that the force of it flying through the air would enialate it.

do u have any idea how fun that sounds???

how bout this, front half will be edible jello, the rear half be something stronger?

I would use it even if it exploded in the barrel, it would send jello shrapnel flying, like a shot gun, only jello instead of BBs

lube the eggs up with something that will make then easily slide and i think that it should work. i might have to make some jello in a pipe....

Sounds good, I would be worried about it clogging up the barrell on its own. theexp's idea souds good with it in a pipe. Have shells with jello instead of lead shot!

a 1.5" pipe will fit a gallon milk cap but it has to be a swist cap ones and if you use that it will act like a wadding and prevent the egg be ing inialated by the guns blow if well lubricated. understandable?

You can just lube up a small lenght of pvc the diameter of your barrel with caps slid on either end, and pour the jellow mix in it, then pop it in the fridge till it hardens
then slide it out, lube it up a bit more if nessecary, and slide it down your cnanons barrel. :D

why do you need to lube it up? jello is slippery.

sometimes its not, its kinda sticky on the outside. And it would make it so that it wouldn't stick so the pressure wouldn't just shoot though it instead of pushing it.

The forces involved in flight are trivial compared to those of launch; a 1.5" sphere would have a drag force of about 1.5lbs at 370 fps, whereas it might be exposed to 75 lbs in the barrel.
Now, I would expect the jello to be jiggled around by it's wake turbulence while in flight, but this will be too high of a "frequency" to resonate with the jello, so it won't cause it to fail.

Now, as to those forces during launch...
There is more force/mass on the edges of the projectile than in the center. This is due to the force being evenly distributed, whereas the mass is lower on the edges. I think this will tend to remove the outer portions of the projectile, resulting in the relitive punting of a pared down projectile.
This will not, however, be helped by putting a flat sabot behind it. A cup shaped sabot should help, and it should survive launch entirely if submersed in water. (for reasons I won't go into)

Interesting idea: you know those easter eggs you can make by making a small hole on both sides of an egg and then you blow out the eggs(try searching it on google)? Make one of those, then tape up the bottom hole and fill it with jello via the top hole. The let the jello set and you will have a jello filled egg to shoot!

EDIT: I found a link for instructions! http://www.twingroves.district96.k12.il ... /Eggs.html

jrrdw:

I've use parafin wax before. It's a perfect fit, and boy does it hit hard. The only down side is it's only good for one shot. But you could always melt it down again!
