Does anyone know the speed or pressure at which a regular paintball will fail?

Well I was wondering because I am building a gun out of cold rolled steel and I plan on running high pressure Co2 or HPA. So is there a pressure that a paintball will break at?

because its a sphere a and good paintball without any dimples on it would probably handle mach one. im sure it could take at least 500 psi because thats the kind of pressure it gets put behind it when you fire it from a regularpaintball gun

Those are just the words I was looking to hear, thanks a lot. I will go forth and build.

if it could take 500 psi, wouldnt it go into your skin rather than pop? maybe a frozen paint ball could......

Well I have had paintnballs fail to leave the muzzle of my sniper they just turned to mush.I though the barrel was causing to much resistance so I libed it up with dishwashing liquid and a little water and various other lubes but they still burstin the barrel or burst when they left the muzle mind you they were flying on the shy side of 800fps,if they left the barrel that is.

If you're putting that much presure behind it I'd use alonger barrel and a valve that will release the pressure a tad slower. You'll still get the same power, but there'd be less chance of the paint breaking in the barrel.

Well I am worried about excessive pressure causing them to burst, not exactly the speed they are going at. Those two are probably closely related but oh well, my gun is pretty much a metal version of clides slider gun.

Well what I'm saying is get a valve that doesn't just dump all the pressure at once but releases it over a few fractions of a second. You can buy parts for paintball guns that do the same thing, they push the round rather than slapping it from behind.

So a piston valve would not work?

a small one would. if you freeze the paint balls it would for sure be just fine. my cousin made a diaphram gun that shot them at over 800+ fps and he never said anything sbout them breaking. like anything, there are good paint ball and there are bad ones. you just have to make sure to get the good ones.

Ok cool, my piston is 1 inch and I plan on getting semi decent paintballs so I guess I will have to see how it works out.
