Here is a pic of my 1 1/2" diameter shell for my 2 inch mortar. I didnt have a cap at the time so i just used bondo to plug it up, bondo is great stuff! I flared out the bottom of the shell in a tin can of cooking oil and pushed it down on a funnel, was not hard at all. Im gonna make a few more since i have a 10' piece of pvc now. I was shocked at how far this thing shot.

Also when you may want to add a faster opening valve to the list of things to get. Or perhaps find a way to actuate the ball valve a bit faster? I think there is a guna round here that uses a spring and a pin. If you could attach the pin to a string and use that to fire it that would be really cool. Anyway, nice gun and nice bipod.

That sounds interesting ShowNoMercy, my next mod will be a better valve along with a new paint job of desert tan prolly. I will look for guna's rig, thx.

There are several rigs around here using spring acuated ball valves. I've built one myself. You should either upgrade the ball valve size significantly or get a sprinkler valve.

Parachute round!

Chop the round in half, add a small lip to one half to register the two halves together. Add an air-flap trigger to open the shell when the velocity drops low enough. (Or, a "Tomy timer" so everything is inside the body of the shell.)

I made a parachute round by drilling a hole in the base of the shell and tying a piece of trot line to it and attaching it to a walmart bag and a metal nut so it will pull the chute out. it deployed too soon but still went pretty high and floated down. i have a video as soon as i can get it uploaded.

Google "water rocket" for ideas on how to get the 'chute to deploy at appogee.

I have designed a parachute round, but I haven't built it. I sent a diagram to spudblaster15, who has built it but hasn't posted it yet.
Here is a diagram.

a remember some sort of paintball mine that used a burst disk that blew after a certain amount of time. Maybe this action could somehow be applied to a parachute round. You would have to fire it off quick though. And the timing would have to be like perfect.....

Here is my 50mm shell for my 2" mortar. I used a 1 1/2 " pvc shell with a plug in the top, then i filled half a plastic easter egg with bondo and bondo'd it to the top.

This is my first attempt at making a flat pvc sheet out of a 2 inch pipe. This could be used for several different projects. First i cut a short piece of pipe in half then put it in a pot of boiling water for about 15 minutes or so. this softened it enough i could place it on a flat surface and hold a board down on it for a minute.

very nice projectile, it would be awesome to have some LED wired on it, and maybe some clear pvc

hey LED lights would be cool. i will look into that, i also was thinking about opening up a glow stick and smearing it all over the shell for night shooting.

You can buy sheet PVC at well equipped hardware stores. Check in the moldings section, it is being used more and more for exterior trim on houses since it outlasts wood. But, PVC sheet is much more expensive than wood. I don't recall anyone ever making it from pipe like you did.

The flattened PVC pipe could come in real handy for fabricating stocks, grips, carriages, etc.

Do you think your 2" round is aerodynamically stable? Is the Bondo filled nose heavy enough to get the center of mass at least 2" in front of the overall front-to-back center of the shell?
