Guinness world record attempt
no offense, but he did say the first guy did it with a solenoid, CO2, and an air ram.
If you can find a toaster that comes with that stock... I'll buy one.

I think what jrrdw is saying is that this probably all has to be fit inside of your average toaster. meaning no external lines or extra valves/buttons

I was just thinking about this and had another idea... Co2 powered, qev, rectangular metal barrels, and heating coil wrapped around the metal barrels to heat it and toast the bread!!! It's genius!!! Maybe. Rules please? (whenever you get them...)

Does it have to be fresh bread? Stale bread can be really tough. I would also find the tallest toaster i could so you could get the most time getting the toast moving.

The guy made his own casing and toaster. The only original parts are the heating elements, so space isn't absolutely restricted. Obviously still needs to be practical.
It absolutely does need to toast the bread. Apparently he had done a higher pop, but the bread was untoasted to save time so it did not qualify for a record.
Restrictions appear to be extremely lenient considering it's a world record. I don't believe that making a barrel with the toast as a projectile will be a problem.
Edit: Btw, plans at the moment are a stainless steel CO2 cylinder (most likely filled with dry air) feeding into a high flow valve (probably a QEV), with either a balanced spool valve for piloting or a solenoid depending on the requirements for ejection (whether auto ejection is required or not, I'm unsure). I'll probably make a barrel from stainless steel sheet (or whatever).

how about firing the toast through a propane flame, or even better, make a combustion laucher with a long rectangular barrel

I dunno, if I listened to everything that everyone will end up saying here I'd end up with a detpack in the crumb tray.

Not to plug my own idea but I think a combustion that both fires and toasts the bread at the same time would actually work. You could probably make a strong enough "barrel" out of say 1/4" .plyood sheet, and wrap it with string/fibreglass/carbon fibre/wire and paste a decent coating of epoxy for strength and sealing

it might be a good idea to induce spin on the projectiles

Oh..you were serious..
I can't see that it will reliably toast the bread every time with a small surface area for a short amount of time. Plus, it needs to be very scalable. I need to be able to give the toast more or less kick depending on how it ends up. Pneumatic, that's easy to do.

Give it enough blowby and it will toast evenlyinonickname wrote:I can't see that it will reliably toast the bread every time with a small surface area for a short amount of time.
The problem with a pneumatic is that you need to conjure up a separate heating element if you want the bread toasted.

And thats why I said,
rectangular metal barrels, and heating coil wrapped around the metal barrels to heat it and toast the bread!!!
