I missed that vid on the slingshot channel somehow. :(
Good info on the eyelets and slot punch.

The thera-band (vid) reads "exercise band" so I am thinking it's probably very similar (if not same) as the exercise bands I find in the discount stores' small fitness sections (also color coded strength levels)...I'll try to check today.

At home depot I've seen these rubber/plastic caps for bolt ends. (name?)
They are usually used on playground bolts or various kid's toys to protect children from getting cut on bolt ends,
but look same as the one's used to attach rubber tubing to factory made slingshots.....I only could find them in 3/8" last time and would like closer to 1/4" or 5/16"

Been thinking of converting a pistol crossbow to rubber tubing since the bow limbs and string have gotten messed up...
I modded it a while back to use a bow release for trigger (very nice trigger pull)...I have a larger bull-pup crossbow I might look into adding bands to...Off work today, so I'll try to get some info and tinker on it.

BTW,This cool toy was on a Google add top of screen.
It reminded me of a slingshot an [ethnic] kid had in middle school.
It was homemade from several rubberbands (small household kind) looped together and a pouch, no frame, he simply hooked it on thumb and index finger!
The rock went incredibly far...(what he shot it at was another story). 8)

Just got back from Home Depot.
In the hardware (cabinets with drawers) I found "screw protectors"
In different sizes.
Metric #10 looked a little small, but black rubbery plastic just like the factory slingshot tube attachment pieces.
OR 1/4" which were white rubber and shorter.
Both in packs of two @ .53 cents other .58 cents!!!

...Hmmm...went to get out my slingshot, and realized I converted it to flat bands a long time ago...
I plan on an "L" shaped plate each side, couple bolts, "screw protectors" (new condom nickname? :P ) and couple tubes with string rather than pouch, for fixing my messed up crossbow.

BTW, I was thinking One of these could be used for a 3 pin sight for elevation, or maybe a pendulum design.

Got my first real 8-string... in the summer of twenty-oh-nine!

The pull is about as hard as the silver tube, but the speed is a lot faster.

Have to chrony this someday soon. But I have to go to Berlin to a trade show this week.

Joerg,

As I suggested, the power of silver does not make it faster.

The chrono will show the difference.

Stu, that is true. We originally talked about an air compressor with a heavy dowel. That construction would need power, not speed, from the rubber.

Now that you go for a direct acceleration, you may want to change the rubber type.

Flat rubber is still the fastest.

Just to let you know, I am planning an attempt to break the 120 Joules barrier this weekend.

I will construct and build a slingshot that is attached to a pair of shoes and is shot from the sitting position, much like a rower.

I will extend the fork forwards by 20 cm, so I will have a draw length increase.

I will use the clamp-on method for the fork attachment. I will use double Thera Band gold, tapering from the full 14 cm to 7 cm.

That will give me an average of 10,5 cm times four. If my calculations are right, the draw force (at 500% elongation) will be about 110 kilogramms (240 lbs).

I will use my trusted release and pull with both hands.

Wish me luck!

Make sure that it's secures to the shoes extremely well. I would have no doubts that with that amount of energy the metal frame could severely disfigure your face or perhaps kill you.

Good luck.

I will be wearing a motorcycle helmet and protective gear all around. I am not THAT crazy.

The construction will be made out of steel 100%.

Oh man this will be heck interesting! remember to get your camera operator wear a motorcycle helmet too!

Good Luck Joerg, I'm looking forward to your video demonstration. Hope you hit the 120joules barriers... could be a new Guinness world record!

Yeah Btw the bicycle tubing didn't work very well.. I might have to use extremely thick rubber bands and combine them together in strips... I thought of the idea watching mythbusters bungee jumping cord.
It's Nerf or Nothing.

Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

This seems to make a lot more sense than having to keep your whole body under compression.

Effectively it would be a scaled up stonebow of sorts

That's it, I'm getting started on a pneumatic Flak Tower on the roof :D

Can't use a trigger mechanism, illegal in Germany.

But also I want a record breaking slingshot. With that kind of mechanism, it wouldn't qualify as one.

what if you release the string by hand... it wouldn't be consider as a trigger mechanism, right?

anyway... quite a lot of us live in countries where spudguns are illegal...

True. Everyone has to decide if a little public inobedience is acceptable.

I, for one, am a legal gun owner and own 34 legal firearms. Quite a record here!

When they catch me with one illegal gun or test, they will take all my guns away from me, for starters, then of course the prosecution will press charges.

So I go 100% by the book.
