Of course not. Although I do enjoy writing in the same style, when bored or extremely late at night.

For a blog that hasn't been updated since 2005, it's really good. In fact, it's about the only weblog I've ever read... I think I got the link from SA one time or another.

Brians rant:After a visit to the doctor I came up with this.

What if mechanics were like doctors.


I went to a carmechanic saying I might have a flat.
His response: " How would you know?!? Are you a mechanic??"

" ehm,...no but....I asked around the internet and the only answer I got was a flat."
He went ahead an told methat everything on the internet is rubbish.
" If you got it off the net, it ain't true."

" DoubleyouTee-Ef?!?!" was my only response...

"What symptoms are you experiencing?"
In disbelief I answered:" Well..I can't get it up to speed but when I do it pulls off to the right side and I can feel the entrire car shaking.
I'm afraid to take in on the freeway...I might die!
The shaking is so bad it feels like the doors are gonna come off."

" Could be a lot of things.."


He told me to leave the car and come back in two days.
I told him I lived miles away and this means I'd have to walk.
" You want me to fix this or not?This is neccesary."

After two days I was back at his shop, exhausted from the trip..

He gave me a friendly handshake and asked me to take a seat.
" You are here because...?"
" my...car?"
" Oh yes...Well...we did a number of checks.

The tank is full of gas so the engine is fine."
" Huh...what??"
" First thing we check"
Then he continued, as he put on his reading glasses.
" The hinges on the doors show no sign of wear"
" Wich tells me what?"
" The doors are not gonna fall off.
Furthermore..the steeringcolumn and all parts attached are okay.No reason for it to wonder off to the left"
" You mean right"
" Right...."

So...he concluded:
" Your car is just fine..you should be able to take it on the freeway.It's an unreasonable fear keeping you from doing so."
I picked up my jaw from the floor and asked him:
" Did you check for a flat"
" Not neccesary.We have never had a flat in this shop...just doesn't happen very often.Never had'm so we've never had the need to check for em."
" Do you want your car back now?"


I started to get a little agitated and demanded he checked for a flat.
" that would mean we would have to check the tire pressure..."
" So go do that"
" There is no such test."
" WHAAAAAATT???"

" The only thing we could do is check for the abcense of air in the tire"
" DUH!"
" We don't do that here.I'll send your car off to another shop...they are specialised in excluding the presence of air"
" Then what??"

" Well...if that would be the case, wich I highly doubt, we might treat your car asif it has...a flat...wich can't be fixed..ever.."
" it's either that or square wheels.."

" Thanks you sir....A big F and an even bigger U for you"

Are you gonna tell us what's wrong with you or too personal?

I generally trust doctors but if you think you have something serious it is best to get a second opinion. I can imagine not everything is clear-cut in medicine and doctors may have different opinions about different symptoms and what they mean.

Brian's rant reminds me of the time I was diagnosed with tendinitis from a repetitive work injury.
I was wearing a dark grey shirt with a design on it that made it look, at first glance, like it had black paint running down the front. The doctor took one look at my shirt and, having obviously not read the clipboard he was carrying with my diagnosis on it, proceeded to nearly jump out of his skin, assuming that I had a horrible chest injury and that there was blood running down my shirt.

To Brian: I hope you get a better second opinion and that whatever you're suffering from is easily treatable. Good luck!

Dam BTB, that reminds me of the story of

"Every time I drink coffee I get a pain in my left eye".

So the women went to the doctor telling him that and he responded with "take the spoon out of the cup before you take a drink"!

It's fibromyalgia.
I mentioned some years back I thought I had worn out my joints with bodybuilding.

Not the case. Nothing's worn.
Just hurts like hell most of the time.
Can't always use my hands...or knees for that matter.
Can't get down the stairs without a half hour shower.
Frequent migraine headaches and tired to the bone 80% of the day.
At night I come to life.

Basically turned me into an old man.

It's often called soft tissue rheumatism.
So far for what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
No more carlifting for me....

There's no cure but life can be made easier.
Oh well...

They can't fix my brain either..

I'd seriously keep searching to see if you can get a good diagnosis. Related storytime!

My uncle has a similar story. His hip joint never formed fully, but since he started doing a lot of lifting at a relatively early age, the excessive muscle mass helped hold the joints together. He hasn't stopped lifting, but he's been on pain medication since he was in his 20s. Recently he changed doctors because he lost his job (but found a new one, yay! as a skilled manual laborer), and when the doctor heard of this, he scheduled him for an x-ray. Two weeks later, hips replaced, pain gone. He's only 45.

For your uncles sake I hope he's a exception...That being said: I've talked to a few people who have had these replacements and they all say they traded 1 pain for another.
