Not true at all. You just can't have the gun in the secure areas of the airport. You have to check it into your luggage and declare it at the time of check in.

And yes, I have personally done it as recently as this past summer. I showed up at the airport. I declared that I had a firearm. I checked my gun. I flew. I got my luggage (ie, gun) and went to a restroom. In the restroom stall I pulled out my gun, loaded it, and before I left the airport I was legally packing heat.

I just never had a gun or ammo in any secure portion of the airport. Which you haven't legally been able to do in a generation; 9/11 didn't change that.

I don't think i'll have a problem bringing it back to NZ, we aren't like Australia, anyone over 18 can buy an air rifle or airsoft gun.

You can buy an air rifle here when you are 18. you can take a rifle on the airplane, but it has to be unloaded and in a secure bag and you have to check it (meaning i goes under the plane).

You should have no trouble buying one or getting on the plane, what might give you problems is getting it to your country.

I'm not 100% sure about airsoft. That's why I was asking a question regarding the rammifications of recent Supreme Court rulings. But a full-blown firearm shouldn't be a problem.

Just a note on checking the air soft gun. Besides declaring it, you also have to have it in a hard case of some sort. It can't just be placed between two pairs of jeans in your bag. You should be fine otherwise.

I wouldn't bother getting an airsoft gun if I had to take it on a plane in DC.

Based on my experiences with people in the DC metropolitan area, regardless of any legal ramifications, someone will have a problem and cite nonsense to back themselves up. Right now I live about 15 miles from DC. People give me odd looks for carrying around one of these. I've even had to tell an ignorant cop that pocketknives are allowed on the University of Maryland campus as long as they fit a length requirement are aren't switchblades.

The larger point here is that regardless of the legality, I wouldn't doubt that someone would have serious issues with an airsoft gun and these serious issues could result in your arrest.

To be honest it would be hard to get the full American experience. It's not like NZ where you can visit one big city and one small town, or Australia where you can visit one big city and the outback. With America, you'd have to do a lot of travelling I would imagine.

Yeah a lot of traveling certainly for a comprehensive look. In the East, any number of Atlantic beaches would do...from Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach and just about anything in Florida. Those mostly a warm weather visit though. Really depends on what you're looking for. BTW, it is cold as a witch's toe just about everywhere here lately, and particularly in the areas you will be...bring your warm stuff!!

Orlando obviously offers many ways to part you and your money and still keep a smile on you face.

Yea man come out to virginia beach, i could telll you all the best places for just about anthing. We have a bunch of really good places for spudding and airsoft.

Currently in Boston. Very cool city, just don't get a taxi. They're crazy drivers haha.

I can understand NYC and DC from a total tourist perspective....Boston is completely skippable.

I would have to disagree now that i'm here. Lots of tourists sights and whatnot. Mostly about the Civil War but there's heaps of cool stuff here.

Still not used to the American way yet, barely able to finish half the food I get for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Went to a great, small place for Breakfast this morning though, nothing fancy at all and looked quite typical to what you see on TV.

Man, the accent is a bit annoyingh (no offence haha), but we stick out like a sore thumb when ever we say anything.

Hopefully we'll visit Wal*Mart tomorrow, should be great fun.
