3D printing, dream ironically fleshed out :)
Depends on what resolution (0.007" or 0.010") and density you pick (solid, high density, low density) because the more you spit plastic, the more it's expensive and long. Low density is like an internal mesh, that saves some material (and is quite sturdy as well). You can even use the "fiber" orientation of the plastic layers to make springy pieces. Quite impressive.
For this card holder, 0.007" high resolution and low density, it took about 13 hours to print.

That's what she said, unless she was referring to credit cardsLeMaudit wrote:Sometimes, plastic is just not good enough

dam thats cool, how much was it, if you don't mind me.
my brothers, wifes, uncles, son bought a injection moulding machine second hand for 5grand, his not a very smart person though got a quote for a die that had 12 fishing lures machined into it, $9000.

Fantastic! Guessing its an SLS/SLA type 3d printer or something to that nature?
It's easy to write 3d printers off as a fad of the hacker culture. But even considering the weakness of the final parts compared to extruded ones, my god they come in handy for pretty well everything Love my UP! printer to death.
Looking foward to seeing what you can crank out with that beast.

You can see the prices on the manufacturer's website, not cheap - there are a lot cheaper printers out there, but the difference in both resolution and material quality is extremely high, you gets what you pay for.Crna Legija wrote:dam thats cool, how much was it, if you don't mind me.
Actually FDM, it melts the plastic then deposits it in layers.Fantastic! Guessing its an SLS/SLA type 3d printer or something to that nature?
They're definitely the future, certainly things like this prove that the technology is going to get much better and perhaps more affordable:It's easy to write 3d printers off as a fad of the hacker culture. I don't know if this was shared before... but for those that discover this technology, here's a short introduction to 3D printing, with an amazingly large model at the end

Well... not a nice looking blade But a nice looking handle, for sure!
(damn now I've got more ideas colliding in my head...)
Anything within the constraint of the materials.
The future is quite exiting... :bounce:

You could if wanted to invest in EDM or WEDM equipment.LeMaudit wrote:Basically... yesSo... you can basicly print anything with that?

Of course water jet or laser cutting may be more useful.
Good luck to you in your future endeavors with CAD/CAM!
