Fact:
Just got back from the liquor store for an evening libation.
I got approached in the car park by a fifteen year old kid who said "hey, how about $100 to get me a bottle of Tequila"

I declined and replied that I didn't need a major fine or jail time right now and suggested he go home. I then rang the local cops and suggested they do a drive by. State law says $8k my way for helping an underage purchase.

Question:
1. Grumpy old man who needs to get a 21st century life ? (My son is the same age as the punk kid)

If it was someone you actually know then it might be different, but as it is I would have done the same thing. Beisdes, fifteen year olds don't usually have $100 to throw away unless they stole it from their parents or are spoiled to begin with.

I think you know the answer, but FYI it is $8k fine to me, something in the order of $50k fine to the shop owner and the possibility of two years jail for repeat offences.

The government here takes underage drinking very seriously at the official level, yet most Sunday mornings we ride through the nightclub area of town about 07:00. It never ceases to amaze me the number of kids obviously underage staggering out of the clubs as they close completely pissed. I am talking kids as young as fourteen or fifteen who have just left a licensed club supposedly managed by trained door staff.

I drank underage too, I'm talking 17 not 14 versus the 18 legal limit. I know it happens, I know it always will, I'm just a bit surprised that kids not long out of primary school are openly buying booze.

I think what you did was somewhere in between. If the kid was 14 I would see no problem in calling the cops but if he was 16 I would think that might be too much (I've spent evenings outside liquor stores with friends when I was 16, waiting to approach someone and ask for alcohol). I don't blame you for not buying for him, I rarely am bothered to do it for people I know even when they're willing to pay me for it. Not out of fear of cops, just because I'm lazy

Edit: Didn't realise it was a bottle of spirits... I wouldn't buy someone who's underage spirits; only RTDs, wine or beer.

I was exposed to alcohol from an early age, I drink, but I flat out refuse to get drunk. The most I ever drink is two stubbies.

I almost exclusively drink beer too, don't mind a red or ginger wine, but I'd rather have beer any day.

You did the right thing, I wouldn't buy kids spirits whatsoever. They're only buying it to get drunk, not to enjoy it. If they asked for a 6 pack, then I'd say buying it for them is reasonable.

And I had well over $100 when I was that age, it's called being half scottish.

Um, NO. Sorry, JRRDW, but you've got it exactly backwards. Line-locks are properly used to block pressure from the brakes on the wheels you wish to have turning freely.

Says anybody who actually has a clue what they're doing. Like ME. I'm not going to screw around or joke when somebody is giving out bad advice about brakes. You might treat brakes like an afterthought, the last thing on the list, thinking "as long as they stop the car, what's it matter?", but I DON'T. They're the FIRST thing I do when I modify. I put over $500 into the brakes on my Buick before I ever TOUCHED the motor. Twin-piston calipers from a Caddy along with heavier rear calipers, PLUS an adjustable distribution block, along with braided stainless flex lines, better rotors, and high-performance composite pads. I took thirty feet off my threshold braking performance on dry pavement, and tire choice helped take almost forty off wet-pavement braking. My Buick will out-stop most performance coupes.

Line locks are ONLY to lock out the drive-wheel brakes, NEVER to hold the non-driven-wheel brakes engaged. The reason for that is so you can apply, release, and modulate the brakes while doing a burnout. If you're doing Aussie-style burnouts, as I assume our Australian friend is trying to do, then putting them on the front would be downright stupid, because he'd have to be constantly reaching for the valve, and applying the brakes to readjust his pressure, instead of simply STEPPING ON THE STUPID PEDAL to modulate on the fly.

In drag racing, you have them on the rear so that you can release the front brakes slowly to roll out of your warm-up burnout, instead of turning them off like a switch and launching yourself.

I don't use line-locks on my Buick because the parking brake is pump-to-release, style, which means I can kick it all the way down, press it again, and it releases the lock, and it stays free. So I can modulate my parking brake just like if I'd locked out the fronts with a line-lock. No good for Aussie-style burnouts, but all I need it for is warm-up burnouts when I wear slicks.

BTW, if you have a stick, and you can't figure out how to use the brake and gas at the same time while using the clutch, it's called "heel and toe" driving, and you should learn how to do it.

I went to a few brake shops to see if they'll install one and they didn't want to do it, Im not sure witch ports on my ABS block are the back brakes if i find that out the rest is simple. The ABS module is a bosch 092046 0 273 004 219

Also got the pump, hose and all other stuff just need my perents to leave for a few hours so i can install it:lol: im going to wire the pump to the volume up button on the steering wheel I put a after market head unit in so they don't work.

First off don't have a cow over it! Secondly I've been turning wrenches over 30 years so I do actually have a clue as to what I'm doing.

It's OK to do it differently and racers have been locking up the front wheels for years before we were both born and will continue to do so. It works just fine. So relax, doing it your way sounds just as effective as the race proven way I described and linked video to.

@Crna Legija: A dedicated race/high performance shop would probably do it for you but those guys are never cheep. Do it the way feel safe or can prove it to work safe for you.
