Hi all,

I've been looking on the internet for a website dedicated to air pistols or an airgun site with an air pistol section on forums etc.

what type of pistol werre you after specifically? Essentially, air pistols are mostly cut down versions of their rifle brethren.

Really? I didn't know that. Well that helps a tad.
It's just that I'm looking to get one so any help.

This is just the forum, but it should get you started on your quest.

It depends what sort of shooting you're into.

If you want a gun that looks realistic which gives you a lot of shots, go for a CO2 multishot. Most models are relatively low powered (1-2 foot pounds) and inaccurate but unloading the magazine can be a lot of fun I have a Russian Anics A3000, a bit more power and a 28 shot magazine, great fun.

If you're after power, then a single shot springer like the Weihrauch HW45 is probably your best bet. These tend to recoil a bit more and are harder to shoot accurated but once you master the technique it's very satisfying. You can also get a single stroke pneumatic that has the same break action but instead of compressing a spring, compresses air in a piston, like the Beeman P3 - you get relatively low power (2.5 ft/lbs) but no recoil whatsoever and very low noise.

Of course ideally you'd get yourself one of these or these but I fear they might be slightly beyond your budget

LOL, that is so far out of my budget I can't tell you. I'm planning to start off with a 200 dollar plinker at absolute max. (I will have to put it on lay-by).

Plus these are legal in Australia. i do like that Baikal though. hmmmmm........ Maybe if i could save up enough, not too sure if it's legal though here in the country of Tight Sphincters.

For that budget I would go for the Beeman P3 - It's about the same power, looks better, is quieter, much easier to shoot accurately and you can fit a scope eventually.

The Baikal is a CO2 multishot so you have to factor in the cost of capsules as well, it holds 8 pellets or 23 BBs. Power is slightly less than 2 ft/lbs, and varies depending on the pressure left - normally I get around 70 good shots before the capsule needs to be changed. The carbine configuration makes it handy and steadier for longer range shots, though really you can't shoot beyond 15-20 metres realistically. It's much cheaper too, less than $100 in the US, if you can find an Australian supplier.

Wel, I'll have a look, But the P3 seems a viable option, a tad more expensive but I like the look of it. And it's supplied in AUS!!!!!!!!!

I've tried one and was impressed by how quiet and accurate it was. Power isn't spectacular, but it's enough to penetrate 1/4" thick plywood. The HW45 will do 6 ft/lbs but it's heavier and more expensive.

What do you mean by "good" - powerful, accurate, cheap, multishot etc. ?

You mean aluminium soda can or tin soup can? For the latter, anything in 0.177 that does 4 ft/lbs or around 500 feet per second will do.

The most entertaining thing i have ever shot. And since this is somewhat of a DIY forum, this gun is extremely moddable. Entire forums are dedicated to upping the firing rate (1200rpm) and modding it into true full auto. in fact you can increase the power by about 50fps just by turning the firing solonoid in the rear of the gun. The only downsides are the questionable hardening of the *rifled* barrel (wears out in around 30k shots aparently, sounds like alot but you will do alot of shooting) and the fact that c02 powerletts cannot keep up with the guns awesome firing rate and cool off/loose pressure. All of these problems can be solved with third party mods, longer barrels, full auto eloctronics boards, modifications to use bulk c02/hpa etc. That website even sells a longer barrel housed inside a fake silencer. That barrel kit is actually made buy a guy from one of the drozd forums, contact him for bulk c02/hpa setups, and some awesome carbine/long rifle type barrels.
