People are buying air cannons for $400 that some guy made for $30.
Absolutely rediculous.

Just because the person selling them is asking $400 for them doesn't mean that people are buying them. I think most people would realize that that is a ridiculous price.

Ok anybody who has any knowlege of spudguns should know that they do not cost that much to make. Some people are just messed up.
EDIT: I think that is against the rules to put up any other spudgun site that sells spudguns.
EDIT#2: jrrdw edited your post nevermind

If there only were air cannons...The problem is everywhere, we based our society on things that are eating the very foundations of our systems. One can make big money with very little effort (selling drugs, stolen goods, ) and have a comfortable life, and next to this you get the family man, who works 6 days out of 7 and is paid just enough to sustain his life level. Come on...something's gotta move on. I think most of the people here are studying or did studies, are cultivated at least a little, and i worship this. People keep learning!!!! knowledge is the beginning of change.

Plenty of people nowadays would rather buy something than build it. Many people also have no idea how to use basic tools, and would build something extremely dangerous. If they don't recognize that a spudgun can be made for $20, then they probably shouldn't be spudding in the first place.

It's because some people don't have the time or resources to learn and construct something like that. You don't realize that most random people (adults included) would have no real idea where to start or how to make everything work. Even if they had an all day class on it, chances are they wouldn't quite get everything to thread correctly or to measure out correctly and work, it would be like shop class with a bunch of sub par products from inexperienced workers.
Prime example - A company decides they want something to shoot T-shirts for an event. They look around, find a T-shirt launcher for $400. If they have the budget of any decent sized company, that would be no big deal to purchase. They get something premade, safe (hopefully), reliable and with instructions. If something doesn't work, they (hopefully) have someone to contact.
It's the same as asking "why would anyone buy a Dell PC when you can build a better one for cheaper?!". Most people know no better or don't have the time/resources to do it on their own, they just want a finished product with instructions.

Its not that surprising actually. When I first looked at a spudgun, I was amazed. I couldn't believe that connecting the pipes together could be done so easily and cheaply. I thought the pipe would not be ridiculously cheap. I didn't know ANYTHING about valves or how cheap they were. Really, everything looked a lot more expensive to me than it was.

People these days are losing the "maker spirit." Consumerism has taken over, and few people actually know/want to know how to build things, when it would be much easier to just buy it online or at Wal*Mart.

Not a whole lot of poeple know how to make a spudgun. Of all my friends, only one I know has done it, and it was a basic spray and pray. This isnt really a hobbie for everyone, most people I know would rather go out and buy a 300 winmag or something somilar.
I say that if this guy is getting people to buy his 400 dollar gun, good for him. I havent seen it since the link was removed, but there is more to a product than the materiels. There is the man hours involved in making the item, possibly the cost of running a website, cost of tools, and possibly taxes. Running a business costs money. I know that if I am ever commissioned to make a spudgun for somebody, I will charge for both the materiels and a fair amount for my time and effort to make it.
What was it? A basic ball valve pnuematic?

I would have to say this guy is smart. He knows most people wouldn't be able to build something like that themselves and he is making money off of it.
If he is getting sales, good for him, as long as he makes sure the buyers know what they are dealing with. If buyers know how to make the product, they would be able to make it for a lot less, like a lot of things are today. I very rarely buy anything I can do with something else. It is the buyers own fault for either being lazy or ignorant.
Now if this gun was a ballvalve pneu, I would have to say, yea, it isn't worth 400 dollars.

perfectly stated, although it's easy for us to say since we're spudders.
What bcarms does is great he provides parts and instructions to build launchers. When I first got into spudding I had no idea what a sprinkler valve looked like.
Maybe an example is in order
. If I were to give you all the parts to build a spaceship you wouldn't know what the parts are called and how they're assembled. Now if you went to a forum and learned all about spaceships it's totally different.
