I was wondering if the browning 800 mag in .177 cal manufactured by umarex is any good? has anyone tried it? acuracy is not a great factor for me, I just want something durable and reliable. please reply soon thanks.

Well i know browning makes excellent firearms, i love the BPS, however i can't speak for their airguns. My guess it its a good gun based on their firearms.

If I had the money to spend and was looking for a springer pistol, I'd buy it. I'm not familiar with it, but I've owned a bunch of airguns.
700 fps for a spring air pistol is a brute compared to most.
At 5.5 lb.s it's very heavy for a pistol, and with that velocity it's like a chopped down rifle though. Seems like the air-piston would be hard to cock, but it's worth the effort IMO.

You could go Dirt Cheap (I wanted one to put a blow-gun barrel on before).
And actually decent, just the finishes are rough. But they don't have the velocity.
This one does,800fps But the barrel is much longer.
Actually hefty sturdy airguns made in China.
A few of my favorite models are no longer there(???)
I had a B3 Chinese rifle I shot tens of thousands of times. At 4H shooting, we had Crosman one pump target rifles (Top line model for them), they said we could bring our own, brought it in, shot as accurate as the rest, and it was denting the pellet trap. They looked all...

" Wulf-Heinz Pflaumer and Franz Wonisch..." With names like those it seems like they'd be high quality. States there, that all replica names used are liscensed by those companies too. Interesting info on there. 8)

Look at (lets not advertize this ourselfs) That was on the left of my screen in this post...Full of stuff against the rules to discuss here(???) (not that I have anything against our rules but it seems funny)...

I'd have to handle it closely to be sure maybe.

I owned a few "Marksman" brand pistols (old collection), they were complete crap.
The dart gun/BB gun styled like a .45 had about a 2" barrel ,maybe so the darts wouldn't overpenetrate but still... and the BB's rolled out it sometimes. also the break action would get stuck and it was 2 halves pinned together with a big seam.
I had an all black marksman co2 bb pistol that had 3 adjustments for power...problem was, the trigger pull was like 50 lb.s on the highest level and it had a smoothbore...so when you squeezed with two fingers the gun tilted and let off a sideways shot out the smoothbore, and it was ergonomically a nightmare too. IIRC sometimes it didn't feed right either...Probably any member of SF's could design something better and those were widescale mass production stuff! 8)

I have ordered the gun Hooray! it's going to be my second pellet gun, my first was a very old crosman rifle. What type of pellets would you suggest? I've ordered 500 .177 (4.5mm) rws super H point pellets, if there are some better pellets please post the name.

Gamo PBA Raptor pellets are probably the best things you could use. I've never used them myself, but I've heard a lot of good things about them. There is a catch though, they are extremely expensive... ~$10 USD for 100 pellets.

I'm not sure if they are worth it for what you'll be using them for, but you may want to look into them.

I think you'll find these are a gimick, true, they might achieve improved muzzle velocity but this is purely as a result of their unfeasibly light weight, which means that they lose velocity and therefore muzzle energy quickly due to their poor ballistic coefficient.

You're best off sticking to a medium weight round nosed pellet, I find JSB Exacts to be the dog's bollocks in all my airguns, both in 0.177" and 0.22".

@mountainousDew: The pba ammo is super light for great crony speeds, but has terrible accuracy, along with being expensive. thanks anyway though.

Agreed - somewhat. Round nosed lead pellets are tried and tested. Weight is a matter of personal preference - some people want heavy pellets (10-11 grains in .177"), some prefer light pellets (~8 grains in .177"). It does somewhat depend on the power of the rifle.

There's something to be said for flathead pellets for target shooting airguns, given that it cuts such neat holes in the target. I've used them at times, and it does make short range target shooting much clearer. Longer ranges do cause groups to open and velocity to fall off.

Head shape is generally a case of what job it's being used for, but as far as I'm concerned, domed is a very good all-rounder, with good accuracy, range and decent hunting power.
In my own opinion, if you can't do it reasonably with domed pellets, then you shouldn't be trying to do it with anything else. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use other pellets, but if you would be uncomfortable with using a domed pellet for the job, then don't dick around with other designs. Get a bigger gun.

Either way, if it's not a lead pellet, don't bother.
I can't see the point to the PBA pellets - they're asking five times the price of some really decent lead pellet brands for something that's not worth half.

I know its a little late since you ordered the gun but I would recommend the crosman 1377 which shoots 600fps for $55.

Be prepared for it to kick about like a 9mm. Springers pack a big wallop when that spring and piston are released.

... with much less recoil than a springer and with little mechanical noise so it can be effectively suppressed.

Not to mention the plethora of aftermarket parts and know how. The 1377 can be punched up to 900fps with 7.9gr pellets...quite easily.

Although...at this power level, it is some what less than "stealthy".

Great "bang for the buck" if you don't mind pumping between shots.
