hey everyone.
I dont know anything about engines or stuff like that o forgive me if i sound like an idiot. but im interested in attaching a chansaw to my old bik to make it go fast. What would be the simplest wasy to do this? btw i think i would like it on the front wheel so i could use my pedals to.

Assuming it has a centrifugal clutch it shouldn't be too hard to weld on a mounting and a couple of sprockets and have it chain driven.

would it be better to use the chain from the bike or the saw?

im pretty sure that a little half horse power 2 stroke chain saw engine isnt going to get you and your bike going any where fast....

what would you reccomend?

The man has a point, even dinky powered scooters have at least 1 hp... you're going to need quite a low gear ratio. Either that or you can dispense with gears completely, have the motor drive a grooved shaft that turns the wheel by direct contact with the tyre.

I'm keeping my opinion that this will be a screaming metal death trap, but it will be cool to see something like this work.

I've seen bikes powered by turbine engines the size of your palm, so I don't see why a chainsaw engine wouldn't work. Also, keep in mind that two stroke engines have twice as many power strokes as four strokes, so less horsepower but more torque. (I think I have that right someone feel free to correct me if I have it backwards)

I had plans to do this with a lawn mower engine a while ago.

I was gonna put the engine right where the crank is (under the seat near the rear tire). I was gonna attach the sprocket that I had removed from the crank to the driveshaft of the engine and then put the engine in the correct area so the sprocket was where it used to be.

Too many flaws and stuff came up so I never did it.

You could always just strap on some JATO rockets and win a darwin award....

meh, ill make a competition entry cannon instead then.

i recomend building one from scratch or at least from a frame that is ment to cary a engine mounting a big enough one on a bike would be very tricky

if you can weld make one if you cant find someone who can and design it all out with some where to put a good size lawn mower engine
