Piston Valve NOOB
Most people won't like to help you with this.
I would suggest searching. One to get the ideas flowing is this:

If that isn't what you need, consider searching more in the how to section.

They just don't like spoon feeding people. They will help but questions like this have been asked before and I've seen it where they say, use the search button.
I honestly don't know why. Thats one thing I never really understood here.

this one's good, maybe you could use a foam base

This sticky also has a good cannon tutorial on how to make a piston valve, you could modify this cannon to your needs.

Should you hand a running chainsaw to someone who has no knowledge of them?
It's the same here. The launchers built here can seriously hurt someone if used or built improperly.
By learning something first, you demonstrate that you have at least some mental capacity, and a desire to learn.
Showing up and asking questions like "I want to shoot something, tell me how." won't get you much help around here.
Does that make more sense?

Really? you dont know why? Isnt it obvious?trooperrick wrote:They just don't like spoon feeding people. They will help but questions like this have been asked before and I've seen it where they say, use the search button.

Why would you want to keep telling people what they need to do? No one told me, well, with the exception to use the search. Actually, no one ever told me to use it. I was to humble to ask a question.
But anyway, in life, you dont just keep getting spoon fed. Why do you think that stops when you are a toddler?
Well because when you are older things are not always going to be spoon fed to you. So how will you find out? By doing your own research to answer your question.
Teachers dont spoon feed you in school. There would be no point in an educational system if we were just spoon fed all the time. You wouldnt learn anything. We want you guys to learn while you visit this website so we want to help you not spoon feed you.
Im not saying that we will not answer your questions, but if you are just asking us to tell you what to do, then you need to find that out yourselves.
So learning is the best way to go!
All piston valves are essentially easy to make and can withstand 100 psi.
You need to do some more research to know exactly what you want so we can help you better.
Edit: Damnit Gippeto you ruined my schpiel! (sp?)

It wasn't too obvious because to actually know what a piston valve is before they've been here or someplace else for a while is quite nice. What I meant by spoonfeeding is links. If you just tell them to search it will only delay what might happen if they see how to build a piston. So honestly I don't see the point.
All I know is this. Why wouldn't you want to help? Honestly umm, teachers kind of teach you? Isn't that part of the point in a forum? So we can help others with ideas? If we were making the piston/cannon for him, thats what could become dangerous. Not teaching him.(not against you Pat)
I may come across as rude, but I just would like to show my point. As I first started looking at the forum I was almost put off by people not showing much kind helpfulness.
Thanks for reading this post, I've been wanting to say something like that for a while.

Well I think the teacher analogy is kind of flawed, personally.
We're not teachers- we're lazy bastards who have better things to do than other people's research...like watching lamp fights

Teachers do teach you, how to find information yourself. They dont give you all the info for a project and just ask you to type it up. They want you to find info on the topic and then use that to make a paper on it on what you have learned. So we are teaching you, but you (as members of the forum) gotta do your part too.trooperrick wrote: All I know is this. Why wouldn't you want to help? Honestly umm, teachers kind of teach you? Your not coming across as rude, you are just voicing your opinion and your may not understand how we are looking at it.
Some people may be rude to newcomers but we try to help you as much as we can without spoon feeding.

yeah well likimyscrotchus used it so I used a counterexample.
The more important part I thought about was the fact that we don't make it for whoever. They have to make it which shows some mental capacity.
But enough of that, i don't feel like arguing, I'm goin to bed...

You will get all kinds of help if you come in with the right attitude and show you have been doing your research and really trying to make a go of things.
I built my first PVC spudder back in the early 90's and was based on a third hand verbal description, never had seen one in person or plans for one. The build was somehow successful in spite of myself and I learned an awful lot in the process. Today, there is literally no spudding question that can't be answered with some quick internet searches.
That's one reason we don't like to spoon feed. It shows a lack of persistence and focus on your part if you're happy to get a recipe and a box of parts and throw together a quick cannon. It indicates a possible peer pressure motive and immaturity.

Same with me, my first gun I planned by myself after like 1/2 to 1 month of reading stuff on Spudfiles, Spudtech and instructables.com. And just a few odd questions
E.G
Is this chamber (1m long, 1' width, over-under) Too large for a barrel that is 75cm and 1/4'etc etc) I think the C:B ratio might be off a bit.

Ahah! thats an answer that I've been looking for. Know I get it.starman wrote: That's one reason we don't like to spoon feed. Please don't hold anything against me for that....
