Having not even read through this topic, what I'm about to say is probably irrelevant. In any case, I would to share this and this and this.

with the exception of the last one, I think that using an EOD(explosive ordnance disposal personel) grappling hook has more disadvantages than advantages, like not having the ability to unscrew the cap and screw in the hooks while in midair... the latter of the three could be promising other than weight and aerodynamics...(not that a potato is any better

Those grappling hooks look awesome!! I think I'm more inclined to go for the while falling through the air functionality approach though.
It's possible and I'm totally making it someday.
TODAY though, I just took apart my old 12V power drill (dremelled the bajeezus out of it) clamped it to my cannon and painted everything silver.
When it's dry and I've finished building the last two components (an extending crank connected to the ball valve for fast open time, and the spool assembly) I will put up some pictures and video!!
Actually, I have a really BAD video I took the other day while I was at home sick. The cannon has completely changed since then, But you can watch it (and the last minute especially) if you feel like it. I did a shout out and invented a type of ammo for you guys to try out haha.
