Piston Material
I know this is a frequently asked question, but i cant find a good piston for my gun. I am making a copper piston gun and the Chamber is (1" )copper.
In my town i have a Lowes hardware store. If there are any materials there please tell me.
Thanks

If you can find a solid rubber cylinder close to the ID of the piston track, that's the only thing you will need for your entire piston.

The one shown below is made from a piece of scrap plastic deck lumber made with the plug from an 1 3/8" hole saw then sanded to fit with a sander placed upside down in a vise. I put the dowel through the plug and sander spun the plug giving a smooth round shape. Total cost including the hardware was around $3.50 It's fully adjustable.

If you have a torch you can make an HDPE piston.
but it must be done outside on account of the fumes produced
1) take a milk jug and cut it into small peices(about dime sized).
2) get a piece of copper the same diameter and length you want your piston, put an end cap on it.
3) put the "mold" assembly in a vice, or anything else to keep it still.
4)fill the copper mold with your milk jug pieces and pack tightly
5)turn on you torch and heat up the outside of the copper until the pieces look like hot glue inside the mold, then take a wooden dowel or anything else the same size(or close) as the the inside diameter of your pipe.
6) repeat steps 4-5 until your mold is filled to the top
7) wait about 20-30 minute for the HDPE to cool and tap it out with the dowel(its actually quite easy to get out)
add yourself a sealing face, and there you go, super light weight super strong piston
BTW, GO KU!!!!!

well if you have a co-axial piston yes, but he still needs to know the length you need it.daniel323 wrote:Is just the size of the chamber not enough to base the size of the piston off of?
The chamber is 2 Feet of 1" copper pipe

you want to keep your piston as light as possible, thus as short as possible, i would go with a piston 1" or shorterdaniel323 wrote:Do you think a 2" long piston would be good?
And yes the gun is a coaxial
