What is this compound on these threads?

I bought this check valve online a few days ago and the threads had this red pre-applied goop on the threads. I asked the seller what it is but they haven't replied, so I'm assuming that they don't know.

My guess is that it is some kind of thread sealant? It is hardened but the mating threads can still cut through it.

There are tons of products out there. I just use Araldite of course it's only good for permanent joins, as are these sealants.

Wait so is the sealant that came on my threads permanent? As in if I thread it into a female portion those two will be permanently fused? It would be very interesting to me if it somehow activates only when threads cut into it.

No. It's permanent in that it's "make once" - it won't seal a joint that's repeatedly assembled and disassembled.

Ahh I see. So if I were to assemble and then disassemble the joint what should I do to reseal it? Can I still add teflon tape or more pipe sealant over it?

Not sure what is proper, I wire brush it off and add teflon tape or or paste, but I typically clean off and redo any sealers.
