at what PSI are you getting these values? I will post up some damage pics in like a half hour after I'm done shooting - I need some better penetrating dart ideas if anyone has them, because my sabot'd household dart's dont fly straight lol...

OK Picture time:

First the two sabot'd darts:




Next the overall damage after a few lead balls (none penetrated) and the first dart (penetrated... somewhat sideways?!?)

Now after the second dart, and this was supposed to see if it could go through two sheets of 1/8" aluminum (Yes... a mighty ambitious 1/4" of aluminum!)




It almost seems as if the dart broke in half almost in air?? then two parts of it penetrated the first sheet rather easily, certainly if it flew straight and hit tip first I'd imagine it would have made it through both sheets...


So after some preliminary tests - I have found that I'm still dead in the water with a good penetrating dart. I think however - with one, I could prolly shoot through two of the 1/8" sheet aluminum pieces I have.

Marbles and sabot'd lead balls however shoot pretty consistantly - I had a nice 5"X5" grouping at about 40 yards with my ball valve trigger and the new scope (Which I sighted in). I am thinking a QEV might be the next purchase for consistancy's sake, what size would go well with this gun?

damn!! what an f'ing difference, I'm definitely buying another for my other copper sniper.

3/8" QEV + new small parts = $35 upgrade well worth it!! the power increase is amazing.

I'll hafta get some new damage pics now that the gun can perform, and perform consistently.





Now I have a blow gun triggering it, and it's very ergonomically accessible compared to the 3/8" ball valve! one finger slight squeeze activation compared to whole hand flinging equals almost no jerking on the gun when firing, so more consistent shots should def be possible. Not to mention the obvious difference in shooting tones, now it's an almost deafening CRACK compared to the fast Whoosh of before... I think it's safe to say there will be a slight increase in power.

I'm at 300psi now I've downloaded GGDT and HGDT and our "answers" differ slightly because alot of the info it requires I never even gave you lol.

I am not getting better results per say, just different results.

needless to say... I'm thinking of making a bigger metal gun someday...

i just put in what seemed right by looking at your gun i didn't know how good your piston was so i put a 65% valve coefficient that might be the problem

Yea I only put 50% cause of the QEV, I haven't run any quantitative tests to calculate the actual Cv, so I'm just sticking with a modest number for now lol. All of the results are expectantly lower, but not by much because alot of the other criteria actually helped me.

Whoa! I can't believe I never noticed yours, especially only being a year ahead of mine! I always liked that design, I made a few PVC variants (ended up being 7 feet long, but fun and ergonomic!) and two copper variants. Simple, ergonomic and sweet looking layout in my opinion!

I went with it for maybe 1/3rd looks and 2/3 function. I was thinking of possibly making some sort of a sliding breech loading barrel, so I needed that support up front, and I liked that location of the gauge so it would double as a cheek rest for the scope.

I feel my chamber volume is to big though. If I were to do it again I would plug the chamber in front of the hand grip.

I stumbled on yours while doing a search for something else and was suprised at how similar the two were.

I never actually got it loaded into the cannon database, so I'm not suprised you didn't see it.

It's actually a really great design... if I could go back and rebuild Thorondor with this layout I would... saves the trouble of installing some sort of rigged-up stock (mine was actually pretty solid, but still...).

It was off of a blowback stacked tube paintball gun - probably a spider or something similar... You should be able to find them on eBay for really cheap - search for dove tail sight rail
