I know what you mean, I did the same recocking setup in my first hammer valve rifle. Don't combine the reload with recock unless you really sure it will work well, for inline hammers it just not worth it, it will makes the reload so hard (because the force does not apply directly on the hammer), it actually make the gun unreliable to use and longer reloading time. Everybody will tell you to combine them, but they don't know what they are talking about, homemade and factory made has differences, simple mechanisms like this may looks simple in commercial airguns, but quite difficult to be made be hand. Personal experience.

Good to see it's working!'
I'd say up the hammer weight and get a lighter spring and see if you can get the same result.
And wyz is probably right.
The hammer might jam in the tube if it is pushed back at an angle.

Yeah I see what you are saying. I would like to load it, then cock the hammer, because that way there's no danger of it firing while I am loading it.
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll make modifications to the hammer. Next time I go to the hardware store I'll make a light hammer with a strong spring and a heavy hammer with a weaker spring and we'll see what happens.

cool,
i am also busy working on this type of gun, i was in doubt to use a inline hammer, wich combines the loading with the recocking...
i am hoping to use a heavy hammer with light spring setup, in the hope i can convert it to semi blowback, or however it would be called
ill post up some pics of my progress if you like, i already made a trigger mechanism out of some strips of metal... still a bit ghetto yet...

Don't worry!! I will!! I just converted it to be semi auto, so it's more like a homemade blowgun/hammer valve.. I'll have to get my mauler shenanigans finished before I can post it however..warhead052 wrote:Evan, post a thread on it. With pictures and maybe a video. I would like to see that.
okay, ill try to get them up here
don`t mind my english tough im dutch
keep in mind im still trying to put the parts together, aka getting "compact setup"
im in the process of making a good inline hammer, as short as possible, the current setup isn`t final i think. just for testing...
i still think a rotating hammer could be usefull aswhell... but im kinda figuring out how to fix some kind of platform to the valve assembly.. :/
anyway, this is what i got untill now... the hammer valve is home-made, with adjustable spring tension, i tested it up to 9 bars atm.

the valves innards

the very crude inline hammer, notice the very big slots in the pipe, those are way to big atm.

the whole assembly so far,
it still needs some proper frame/base to mount the differents parts on... this is the hardest part for me atm.

Sweet! Looks like we are pretty much on the same page here. What is that chamber that are you using, and what caliber? What pressure do you plan to take it up to? Hammer valves need high pressure to work well, certainly more than 9 bars. Your English is fine by the way.

i`m dutch so i go with metric sizes.
i didnt decide on te caliber yet, but i prefer ID 10mm OD12mm for the ease of getting fittings around here.
on 9 bars, wich i could achieve with a bicicle pump, it shot rather good with a temporary ID 13mm 80cm long test barrel... shot clean trough a abs container. however i could only get 2 decent shots out of it. i thinks thats deu to the rather large hammer valve i build.(tapping it with a spanner)
the airchamber im using is a salvaged 0.7Kg helium tank, rated for 300 bar
(not planning to push it up that far :S )
this thing will not be used for airsoft of coarse
maybe i will try to build a paintball sniper out of it, but mainly im just learning with this first pneumatic
i`m kind stuck at the moment, because to design the hammer, i need a base to mount it on. and i seem to have some difficulties figuring out how to build a solid mounting base....
i figure i will be using some square steel profile . clamping the square on the backside of the valve assembly on that, somehow. i dont have any real mounting point there however.. :/

Yeah that is definitely awesome for a first.
Looks like it can take a LOT of pressure. If you can get a fridge compressor, they are easy to use, and can take that up to about 600 psi or more.
And yeah that's a big valve so it probably let's out a lot of air per shot. I found that hitting mine with a hammer let out over 50 psi per hit and with my striker it let's out 10 psi per shot. So when you get your hammer worked out, it will have way more shots. Even more when you crank up the pressure.
I'm also stuck on mounting. My valve has mounting threads as you can see in the pictures, but I don't want to use that because it will probably screw up the valve and that's not a very strong place to mount the striker. So I'm thinking of using some metal to attach to the chamber and go back behind the valve where I will mount the hammer.
Also guys, I decided just to make mine 6mm caliber (I have a sniper airsoft barrel 6.03mm) and also a bullpup configuration. I hope to make a lot of progress this weekend. I might post a simple diagram of what I'm thinking just so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

sweet, please do post those diagrams, it will help me out on deciding the final setup
the hammervalve i build is customizable, i got a few different springs for it, and i can adjust the pre-tension on it... that combined with a hammer wich should be adjustable, should get me some decent powered multiple shots, even on lower pressures (in case i need to handpump it)
mounting the frame on the chamber doesnt sound like a bad idea.
ill go ponder about that now
would you recon a wooden stock/frame would be strong enough to mount it on?
p.s. i actually started to work on a fridge compressor this week

WOOHOO!!!p.s. i actually started to work on a fridge compressor this week

Wood stock... It's a good idea but wouldn't work for your gun because the size of the helium bottle.
I'm also planning to make my spring tension adjustable and hammer weight adjustable also.
I think on your gun, mounting to the chamber is the best idea.
I will have to post the diagram later, I am out of the house.

Nice work Gun Freak, I might have to build me one of these hammer valved contraptions myself...
