What's the best material to make the body of a gun?

Yes you can microwave it, ceramic dish of granules for a few mins on high was how I did that lot.

Don't worry about it being too hot, unless you've got a malfunctioning self preservation instinct you'll know when its cool enough to shape.

The easiest and cheapest way to go about it in my opinion is to buy a crappy airsoft gun/water pistol and use that as a shell, an excellent example is what irisher did here.

Nah, I rather hand make it, it has a better feel xD, and if I buy a crappy gun, I'll be too tempted to refurbish it

You wouldn't be making it from scratch, granted, but it's an excellent base and you can hack off/graft on features to give it that personalised touch.

It's the same stuff that Hotwired suggested. Google "Polymorph."

I always use wood because of it's dimensional stability, high strength weight ratio, and countless finishing options. Of course it helps to have worked with the stuff for countless years and have a myriad of tools for working with it.

I'm sounding like a douche for rejecting so many idea...but I think I got it all pat down now, grip would be made of the polymorph, and barrel will be coated with polymorph so the inside won't be hollow, then it'll be layered with some metal. I'm thinking a black pain job, and as for the poly morph, how do I make it have color?

Sadly, I saw those already, the cheap ones are 20 bucks and flabby, the higher quality ones are for cosplay and cost around 200 bucks a pop

He also loads from the bottom, in the anime, Brandon Heat loads from the bottom, I want that to be the air tank instead, and change the shooting barrel to the middle. As I said before, the magazine will be on top, inspired by the tennis ball shooter who can load anywhere

Same thing. Apply heat to get it to about 60 degrees.

Microwaving isn't as wet is all. I used to use hot water.

Anyway for resoftening the surface (for example you find air bubbles, need to burst them and redo that spot) you can often only use hot water since cannons or cannon parts are often not microwave safe...

A kettle of boiling water poured slowly over or submerging the part in hot water works fine.

They would still make an excellent basis for you to reinforce and build on.

Body filler like bondo is cheap and readily avalible, but will take a bit of time to work into a finished product.
You could also make a rough shape out of a block of wax, then layer on some fiberglass cloth/resin. Cut the shell in half to remove the wax, then add the guts as needed.
This will again require finishing, but will be much lighter than a solid cast block.

However, you can make some nice stuff with sheet metal. I made the case for my coil gun out of some aluminum and a spray-can gun. (It's in the mini cannon showcase... somewhere.
