Heating a Pneumatic

If you were to cover the inside of your pressure chamber with some kind of heat insulation and then take something like small hot plate or something and heat the air, or better yet helium or hydrogen up in the chamber. This would increase the speed of your projectile wouldn't it, and if so by how much beceause I do not know. I just want to try and build the most effective pnematic launcher that I canand if doing this small change would help at all it would be great but my guess is that it does not change the velocity a whole lot to bother with this.

yeah i doubt it would change it much. plus it would take a verrrry long time to heat all the way through pvc and heat the air inside. you could try like wiring in some nichrome wire in the chamber to heat it from the inside but if you use hydrogen you might have a problem. i still dont think its worth it though

what I meant was putting some kind of heating device inside, such as a hot plate or something hotter, and hydrogen woulkdn't really be a problem beceause theres no chance of it cathching on fire due to the fact of no oxygen to react with but ya I guesse its pointless unless of course there was some way to heat it to a very high temperature without compromising the streangth of the PVC. Oh well.

Well I meant puting the heating device inside, but ya it probably won't do anything substantial, well unless there was some way to heat it up to a very high temperature but then it would compromise the PVC's streangth. Oh well.

You said you were sorry in a third post, use the edit button. Heating the air would simply raise the pressure, just pump more in, you can't go past 160 psi anyways.

You know, there is a cheap and easy way to heat your air: combustion.
Make a 2x mix hybrid; you'll get 100-120 psi of very hot gas. Exactly what you want, right?

PVC melts easily, it would most likely get soft enough to fail long before you got it to a temerature that the velocity would significantly increase

why not use metal/copper pipe? cant beleive no one thought of that
