Black iron + pneumatics

How long does it take to have a black iron pipe rust out to a point that it will be unsafe? i will be using black iron pipe for my HPA t piston and was wondering if i could expect the thing to blow up after a year of use? I will be running the gun at 300-700 psi. If it will rust out in about maybe a year, how could i slow or stop the process of it rusting out?

If you keep it dry and maintain it well, it should last you for quite a while. If you're really worried about it rusting out, just buy a galvanized pipe. It should only cost you a few cents more per piece.

personally I wouldn't feel safe using iron fittings at 700 psi... well it's all about the size you want to use.... 3/8" can probably handle it... 1/2" is probably the highest I would use

galvanised fittings and pipes cost as much regular iron ones here.. in fact they are easier to get

so I agree with maverik94... got with galvanised ones

Hm not sure but I think I've heard of people painting the fittings with rust prevention paint... But I agree with the guys here, save yourself a big hassle and get the galv fittings.

I didn't reallyunderstand your "really is this scary" question??

@marfy
have you ever pressurised your gun to 500 psi ? I have and it 'feels' really scary... damn even 300 psi seems scary at first

so let's say that I wouldn't feel safe close to a 1" pipe at 700 psi... i know some might argue that it is almost safe but it's not something I want to be close to

I wasn't saying it as a question, please re-read and you may get what it was supposed to mean...

I've used black iron to build a (small-bore) gun.

I've been taking it to 150 psi for several years now (probably amounting to several thousand shots), and it hasn't shown any sign of wear.
