Marble shooting piston gun
Here is a piston gun I have built lately. The barrel is 18mm, 1.5m long copper pipe and reservoir is 28mm 1m long pipe. It fires mostly marbles and AA batteries. I usualy put tape around the batteries to make them fit tightly into the barrel. The piston is made of a wooden dowel with a rubber circle in the front. I don't use any spring on the piston since I consider that unnessesary. The piston is pushed around entirely by air.
I built this gun after being a little dissapointed with my last ball valve copper gun. I wanted to make something more powerfull. The piston gun is at least twice as powerfull as the ball valve gun. I got my insperation from destruction photos found here: http://galfisk.kaaven.net/gallery/index.php 8)
And here come the photos =) (all shots are powered by 100psi)
The gun itself and a 3d illustration I've made of the inside.
GGDT data for the gun
Marble shot through seven steel cans. The can are in order from right to left.
1.5cm particle board. The larger whole in the middle is made by an AA battery and the smaller is from a marble
Steel barrel being shot with a marble from 10m
Spread pattern of three marbles being shot simultaniosly from 10m away. The power of each individual shot is reduced though.
A 9V battery hit by a marble.
Power comparisson between the ball valve gun and the piston gun using same pressure.

Very nice cannon and good damage shots . I didn't even know that there was that big of a difference in power with a ball vavle and piston. Well good job on your cannon.

that's because he made a copy.Very nice.Galfisk has a 2 meter long barrel wich might be too long to look good.He does get the gun up to 300 psi you know.sticking to 100 is a little wimpy.

Oh my friggin god stop being so awesome, that thing is pure kick ass. Most innovative and creative pneumatic that the files have ever come by!
Can't ask for a better compliment!!

The reason I only shot at 100psi is becouse thats maximum my bike pump can deliver. I got one of these 250psi compressors that connect to a car 12V outlet, but I haven't had the chance to try it with this cannon. I can say though that this cannon is at least twice as powerfull at 100psi as my ball walve gun at 220psi, so I'm pretty glad 8)

Yes single shot. I taped them all together to form a long column.did it go through all of those cans at the same time,or was it 7 seperate shots??
Well around $40 i think.did that launcher cost alot to build?
Becouse I didn't find any 28-18 reducer which I could slide the barrel through.why did you use two redusers instead of just one
3DS Maxwhat program do you use to make the 3D images
Appologise to bring up and old topic but shite thats a nice gun. To sone people it looks crappy but im such a fan of simplicity.
A couple of questions though...
Im confused. Do you use 1 1/8'' for the chamber? Or is the gun just 3/4in for the barrel and 1in for the chamber?
If anyone can help us out, it would be greatly appreciated.

From the description, the barrel is 18mm (roughly 3/4") and the chamber is 28mm (roughly 1 1/8").

Not really, the chamber:barrel ratio is already high.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the help. I'm looking to build a gun very similar. In Australia, 1 1/8th is a very hard size to get. It's used for refridgeration. With this and the original that was made by Galfisk, Galfisk used a 2m barrel. If I'm using a 1in chamber, will I get away with a 2m barrel?
