Hi spudfiles, new user here, here is my first build. After trying to make a piston cannon and it not working (air leaking from barrel), I decided to do a simpler design based around a Ruger 10-22 stock. I used a brass valve but all the other parts are painted PVC. It is a half inch valve and barrel with a 1 inch air chamber. It sits in the stock pretty snugly, but is also secured with hose clamps for added support and looks. It has pretty good power, no damage pics but shooting a battery at a block of hard wood left a pretty nice imprint in the wood. So far I have tried batteries, wooden dowel segments wrapped in electrical tape, and acorns which make nice ammo because they are all over the place here. Some pictures are attached.

Looks fun! Cool stock.
Thought about spring loading your ball valve? That would be cool since its mounted on a stock.

Thanks! I've heard of spring loading them but I really didn't want a huge spring on the side of the gun. I'll still look into it more, do you have a link?

Are you sure, I think it would fit the 'steampunk' theme very well.Spectrabox wrote:Thanks! I've heard of spring loading them but I really didn't want a huge spring on the side of the gun. I'll still look into it more, do you have a link?

You should think about using actual copper tubing for chamber and barrel for a more authentic look.

I guess that's true. I will definitely look into it some more. And for the copper, I thought about it but since it was my first gun and my hardware store having a very limited selection of copper, I decided just to go with PVC. You can't see it in the pictures, but in person it has a kind of rough surface to make it look like rusted copper. Thanks for the feedbackjackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Are you sure, I think it would fit the 'steampunk' theme very well.Spectrabox wrote:Thanks! Nice cannon you dont need put big spring.
Put some oil to the ball valve and avarage size spring.
By the way nice stock. Did you make it or is it old air riflestock?

Thanks. The stock is from a Ruger 10-22 rifle. My father has had it in his closet for a while and he said we could use it. The stock wasn't damaged except for some minor sanding inside the gap to fit the pipe in snugly.finland66 wrote:Nice cannon you dont need put big spring.

Also here is a damage pic attached from shooting a drumstick wrapped in electrical tape at a sprite from about 6 ft away.
Pretty nice damage. Also try this:
