QCTBDC: Something Completely Different

I have never made a burst disc cannon (hybrids don't count) and I decided why stop at a plain burst disc gun when I can make a challenge of it?

I have been thinking about the discussions on triggering burst discs for a while and thought it would be nice to have an easier way to do it than using two unions and all that.

I decided to also cure the problem of bust discs being a royal pain in the ass to replace.

This is it what I came up with: The Quick-Change Triggered Burst Disc Cannon. I'd like to let my video do all the talking. (Be sure to open in Full-Screen.)

<a href="http://media.putfile.com/QCTBDC"><b>The QCTBDC</b></a>

Enjoy. :D

And for some details:

What it is, is a lathed union inside of 2.5" pipe with o-rings on it (like a piston) that locks against the other union piece held in place on the front. Air pressure keeps it held in place naturally. All I have to do is bring the "piston" up to the aluminum and it sticks right on.

I tapped into the broadhead and threaded it onto a threaded rod which then threads into the pneumatic cylinder.

This is a prototype model which is why the barrel is not cemented in, stickers are not removed, and it's using "Kevin's" chamber. I think it's still pretty cool... :P

Finally!!! A theory put into practice, in a beautiful manner I might add!!

Most theories never make it.
I love the quick change, very well made!!

Gort,
Beautiful job here. Innovative, effective, and super clean construction for a "draft" model. I'm sure it performs wonderfully, too.
Any chance of some distance tests, ggdt model, and/or damage shots :o ?

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Thanks guys. I'm glad you like it. It was such a rush to make this gun. I can't wait to do more testing with it.

I don't know when I'll have real damage shots. It's pretty cold here now and I have been trying to do less indoor shooting.

I totally suck at GGDT. I have no clue how to do an accurate simulation of this type of launcher.

I'll do what I can though. Thanks again for the compliments.

I love it - I've not seen anything that innovative and original in a while.

I'm surprised the discs get a clean hole punched out of them though. Well, you live and learn.

Kudos for something so slick.

The broadhead would make the initial puncture and the air pressure would tear back the disks from that point but I do agree that it does seem surprisingly neat round the edges.

It'll turn up as aluminium shrapnel in the airflow, might scratch the barrel to a degree.

Great idea and demo. I think a complete design would benefit from a more compact way of puncturing the disk though, thats over a foot of pneumatic cylinder behind the disk.

Last time I thought of easy burst disks I kept thinking of embedded explosive wires  Talk about an imagination overbudget.

Amazing, simply amazing. When the broad-head first went forward, HELO!
Sgort87 you’ve outdone your self.

Now I need to get off my lazy butt and get something done. But first I’m going to watch that thing again.

SGORT I have always expected great launchers from you and this one is by far one of the best. really innovative. Hope it performs well.

hmm :s the link is dead , can u put the video up again please or maybe some pictures so i can understand the triggered broadhead seal better ?
planning to build one like that myself , and i've heard this was the best triggered BD cannon :)

thx anyways :)
