Nitrogen and PVC

I'm thinking of using a nitro tank to fill the reservoir. Is there any danger in using nitrogen and would it degrade the PVC quicker than CO2 or regular compressed air? I believe if nitrogen is more powerful, I wouldn't have to fill the reservoir all that much and I wouldn't have to carry too many canisters of CO2 or propane.

a nitro tank you mean paintball right? If you are using a paintball tank, they use hpa, which is high pressured air. They dont fill it with nitrogen.

i think he means the large gas cylinders, just filled with nitrogen, and to my knowlage nitrogen will do nothing to PCV, ( i sure hope not seeing as it makes up like 72% of our atmosphere
).

you have a regulator right? you fill normal pvc with unreg'ed nitrogen its going to explode almost instantly becuase of the insane pressure its stored at. its over 1000psi in those tanks if i remember correctly...

I will be adding a regulator. but I'm talking of filling the pvc chamber with nitro.

in that case as long as you dont exceed the pipe's pressure rating it will be fine

The HPA paintball tanks are filled with either HPA or NITROGEN. The pressure stored in a nitrogen gas cylinder or a paintball HPA tank ranges from 3000 to 5000psi some have less some have more but that is the most common pressure range. If its reg'd it won't matter, if you think about it the air we breathe is 78% Nitrogen. So there is very little difference but in terms of power between CO2 , Air , and Nitrogen, Nitrogen is the lighest followed by air then Co2. The lighter the gas the faster it expands (more power and less pressure) . All you really have to worry about with PVC is if you use CO2 and fill too fast it can freeze the pipe and make it very brittle and cold also seriously reduces pressure rating on the pipe.

Nitrogen is safer to use with pvc than c02 so yes it would be fine

Performance wise I've had better luck using Co2 in my cannon than Nitrogen.
I'm not exactly sure why but my Paintball cannon shoots farther with the same velocity using CO2.I know, sounds crazy but it happens every time.And I'm pretty sure the chrono is not off.
Nitro is cheaper but Co2 is easier to get.It's really all up to you.Either work fine.

post the gun when you done, im very interested in a reguated hpa or nitrogen powered spudder. I reccomend a palmers regulator if you have not purcused one already. Good luck!

The gun looks ok... just watch the dwv bell reducers. I too wanna see a nitrogen/hpa powered pneumatic.

What is it with people using dwv parts when it is constantly broadcasted that dwv + pneumatics increases the chance of severe injury...
Do not use nitro tanks or anything like a hpa tank on your cannon because it will explode. If you dont want to throw the thing out or fix it, use a bike pump and only use 50-60psi. Just dont want your next thread saying "you guys told me it was ok to use nitrogen and my cannon exploded, severing my arm."
Keep the tank until you figure out how to safely assemble a sound pneumatic that can handle it.

Don't throw it out, use it as a "learning" gun. While I do not actually know this, from the looks of the build, you are a beginner (everybody's a "noob" at some point). I have been building pneumatics for two years, and I still don't want to mess around with HPA. Use this gun as a building block; shoot it off (at lower psi), have fun with it.
Some tips for the gun:
1. Watch the dwv. Specifically look for fittings with NSF-pw on them.
2. Butting the fittings, esp. the elbows, not only makes the gun more compact, but more aesthetically pleasing.
3. Pressure gauges and pop-off valves are always nice touches.
