The STINGER

here for your viewing enjoyment is my new high pressure golf ball
accelerator named "the stinger". chamber is a firefighters air tank rated to 2216 psi. barrelis 72 inch long piece of aluminum pipe with 1/2 inch thick walls.
t-valve is 2.5 inch pipe with .250 wall thickness. all flanges are made of
.5 inch thick plate. porting is exactly 2.000 inch. piston is made from a
solid piece of billet alum. 6061t6. machined to the hourglass shape.
3/16 inch thick rubber sheet bolted on the piston with a compression washer for the barrel sealing end. 3/8 thick rubber cemented on the back
of the piston for the bumper. pilot dumped with 3/4 ball valve.
i have tested up to 150 psi with great results. golf balls are hard to see
go. i have a 300 psi compressor on the way. it should easily handle that. all the
welds were tig welded by an expert aluminum welder. all welds were
a minimum 3/8 thick beads. all flanges are o-ring sealed and bolted with
5/16 bolts. piston is servicable and barrel is removable.
will hopefully post video next week of the stinger after i get the 300psi
pump and i make some multiple sheet plywood targets.
it really is alot of fun now at 150.
next project is an aluminum welding tank with 4 time cubic inches volume
of the stingers chamber. plan to shoot softballs with it.
*******update*******
shot some video of the stinger today. still working on the 300+ psi setup.
heres the links below. was shooting between 100 and 145 psi. distance to target was about 15 feet. golf balls went easily through 4 sheets of 1/2 inch plywood. could hear them richocheting off tree behind the target. last shot hit the ply where there was a 1 inch thick backing board. went clean through that which is a 1 and 1/2 penetrating round. my six year old grandson shot the vids. he did pretty well for six. hope you enjoy as much as he did.
