Okay, with everyone boasting about how great their stun guns or whatever are, I just thought I'd post the cheapest, easiest ignition system possible. Simply drill a hole in the wall of the combustion chamber with a 1/2 inch bit, approximately in the middle of the chamber. Then, use a long-nosed grill lighter to light the fuel. Simple, with little or no problems. Cost: 6 bucks for the grill lighter. Most everyone has a drill.

you know, everyone knows about these, and many people use them, but they are really weak! a stungun makes a much more powerful spark! there is no need to tell us about these old fashioned ignitors. and also, an even cheaper ignition is the peizo from a long nosed lighter, so i beat you...twice!

Let me see if I get this right. You are going to drill a 1/2" hole in the side of
your combustion chamber wall, jam in a long nose BBQ lighter, inject your
fuel, hold on to your spudgun, and then pull the trigger on the lighter that has
nothing to hold it in place and hope that one hand or the other does not move
when you have combustion. Please reconsider before we hear the cries of
grief from the burns you will have received when the ignited gasses come out
that 1/2" hole because the lighter moved out!

yes, but how would you get it in the chamber?

Once I forgot to replace a 1/4" bolt for my fan and fired the gun.
The hole was down at the bottom near my belly, it burned thru my sweat
and t-shirt and gave me a burn bigger than an egg. It was painful right at the belt line and took quite a while to heal.

Actually, That is not the case. If you Put a bipod on the cannon, You don't have to hold onto the cannon at all, Which allows you to put all of your weight on the lighter. Suprisingly, There is very little force exerted on the lighter. It has never "moved out." And as far as being cheap, wouldn't it just be easier to leave the Lighter intact and use it that way than to rip it apart to get the peizo? That wastes time. Oh, and while I'm at it, If the spark is strong enough to induce combustion, then the power of the spark is MEANINGLESS. A BBQ lighter will light the same amount of fuel that a stungun will. Is anyone here being critical due to experience? Except for sjog, of course. I know you are. That's the reason why I have a bipod.plumpthumb wrote:Let me see if I get this right. @Karatedude13: i am not being critical because of you only being a member of the forum for a short time. i just know what im talking about a bit more than you. A stungun WILL produce a larger spark than a bbq ignitor, and though they will both cause combustion, a stungun, especially with multiple spark gaps with cause a more rapid and complete combustion because of the more powerful spark. this will cause the projectile to go further because there will be more pressure behind it if the fuel is completely burned rather than half burned when the projectile leaves the barrel. so a bbq ignitor is a good ignition source for more tame combustion guns, but if you want some more powerful advanced combustions or hybrids, a stun gun is the way to go!

no needs a stun gun. in canada they're illegal, so the cheapest ignitor is a lateran lighter. $4.99 at the home hardware
as i'm new to this forum this may be an old idea. i tripod mount my golf ball gun. i mount a torch lighter (squeeze type sparker) inside the chamber of my gun drilling a tiny hole for the pull wire. this allows me to stand to the side. i use acetylene gas for propellant! BIG BANG!
one end cap," screw type " rupture. i like to stand clear and not hand hold
