mini hybrid win!

Harness the power of precision mixtures of pressurized flammable vapor. Safety first! These are advanced potato guns - not for the beginner.

How do you expect to shove a 4.5mm ball into a 4mm tube?

JSR,

If you're going to try a compression-seal method between metals, you might get opening pressure inconsistencies as the casing gets "worn in".
But, something you can also try is chucking the casing in a drill press and squeezing a slight lip into it just above the projectile. It will naturally be smoothed back out during the shot, but depending an the malleability of the metal you're using it should be fairly repeatable.

They're pinky and the brain/yes pinky and the brain/one is a genius/the other's insane!

My thinking is that the lead ball is either gonna hold not enough or too much pressure, also the 4mm tube holding the ball could wear down, reducing the lifetime of the cart greatly

Gunfreak, he'll force it in, probably with a hammer or vice

Brute force, ignorance, and some Lurpak. :D
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Naval cannons are actually called "rifles", which means the 46cm bore guns of the Yamato class would count  though really past a certain bore they use bagged charges, not cartridges.
You might consider just taking over an unstable African country...
You could have just said "an African country" :D

*ahem*
How do you expect to shove a 4.5mm ball into a 4mm tube?
Using reasonable amount brute force inspired by ignorance, and substituting Lurpak with a slight bevelled edge on the tube (though the little Lurpak guy was trumpeting support in the background), I managed to push it in without great difficulty.

That's my hunch too, we'll see later this afternoon :)

True, but don't look at me, I'm not the one sitting with my cereal and vodka spouting random ideas for other spudders to build  :D

Which is, clearly, what SHE said...

/content-less post.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

the Schwerer Gustav: 31.5" barrel, 39 km range, approx 14 rounds per day firerate, built to destroy forts on the french border in WWII, never saw actual combat use, remains largest rifled weapon ever built build a cartridge like that!

perhaps we need to clarify: a handheld, reasonably-operable-while-in-the-standing-position rifle cartridge size

JSR could probably take over for Mubarak, i'm sure the egyptians would be just as unahappy, but only because he spent the entire nat'l defense budget on rebuilding the presidential palace out of epoxy
i can see it now "oh, the banquet will be held as soon as the main hall cures, just wait a little longer"

No, that's what I said.

What SHE said was "AAAAAMmmmnnnghhhhhhhrrrr... ooh! ahhhhhh..."

;)
the Schwerer Gustav
I stood next to that shell, humbling.

Mubarak has Abrams tanks on the streets I though all they had were a bunch of antiquated M60s, guess it pays to be buddies with the states, I don't think JSR's puny collection of hybrids can compete.

Seems like they could use an actual epoxy sarcophagus though :(

moving on...
mixing the several tonnes pf epoxy to mold a palace would be interesting
what if the wiring's wrong, gotta throw the whole thing out and start over!
it'd be similar to a concrete pour, but you might drift away in the fumes to an epoxy dreamscape,,,
although i'm sure you've been there before, when you cast your current residence at least

If you used most of the commercially available glues or resins, I'd wager that the whole thing would inadvertently go up in flames, as the heat from the curing accelerated the process, causing thermal runaway en masse.

I would love to but a court order says I mustn't :?

I was about to suggest that, it's surprising how hot an epoxy mix gets in significant quantities.

Hotwired was fiddling with something similar in one of his videos, perhaps he can help :)

Anyway, about the "forced balls" (:D) cartridge, it's held 20 bar without apparent leaks! Hybrid testing soon :)
