I do not want to get blown up.

I recently saw a good few of youtube videos making HDPE blanks, and im thinking i could use them as a QEV or QDV for a airsoft gun. Now to the part of I do not want to blow myself up, I have no clue on the size I should make it to withstand the air to launch a .3g, 6mm bb (high weight airsoft bb). I would like to put up 150psi of pressure on the QEV/QDV, and not have my face break.(The absolute maximum pressure could be like 70 psi, the 150 would just be to show off). I just would like to see if milled HDPE would be safe for that kind of QEV. Heres a video

It's definitely possible, although there have been varying results from it, I'm pretty sure that not that long ago there was a thread about using melted milk jugs to make pistons, have a look see if you can find it, it has quite a bit of useful information if you are really keen.
Although my advice would be to not bother with trying to make your own, not only is it a pain in the ass to get it right, you also run a high risk of the material coming apart when you're machining it, and being exceptionally prone to weak points or impurities, some of which can only show themselves after you have spent many an hour machining, or sanding or cutting it, and could render the part a paperweight.
If you have access to a milling machine, and the knowhow as to use it you'd probably do better off buying some plastic stock in, it hardly costs a lot, and worth the piece of mind, especially if you are worried about safety.
All with the benefit of making the final object not look like its made from play-dough.

Well, duly noted. I unfortunately am broke again. (Other project is a .22 rifle, I'm working on the stock). I just want to make a cheap qev or qdv that I could use untill I have an aluminum one. The qev would also give me something to do while I acquire more money. I'm not thinking of making a huge qev/qdv, just something to play around with. I'm just not sure on specifics of HDPE, and what it can do, or if I would have any problems, like making threads and such.

I have a deal for you Dartguy.
I don't recall you actually building anything...ever. To be brutally honest, I think you're blowing smoke...again. :bs:
But I''m willing to give you a chance at proving me wrong.
If you will agree to post
HERE WITH pictures (video WOULD be nice
) a COMPLETED and FUNCTIONING build using the qev within 30 days of receiving it, pm me your name and address and I'll send you a 3/8" qev brand new, still in the plastic...the aluminum block type...absolutely free of charge. I'll even pay the shipping.
Only stipulation is that if you fail to complete a build within 30 days of receiving it, you WILL cut the qev in half and post pictures of THAT. :tongue3:
Packages take roughly 10-14 days to get to the US from here, can have it packaged and shipped by weeks end.
The ball is in your court little buddy. :bounce:

Oh, my brain died on me there, sorry. I'll ask for it when I get done with my .22 I got, because for some darn reason I can get guns easier than air gun stuff, though I did get a fire extinguisher. Soon gippeto, soon. I'm gonna play with this qev first. I'll take you up on that offer soon, when I have fewer things to do. Here's something I did while I was away.

I know just what you're saying. Free time is so very hard to find.... I gota meet with the president....he wants me to come over for dinner some evening this week. I've got to be in surgery three mornings this week as I have at least 6 heart patients counting on me to save their lives. I have to fly a quick to trip the space station on Wednesday as the guys are throwing me a birthday party up there and I have a squad of Special Ops guys in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, counting on me to train them on Friday. I'd love some free time.

velocity, please tell me that is a joke.
it just i have no money, i literally owe my dad like 20 bucks. i also have a forge that im building (firebricks is the $20). unfortunately since it is near the end of the year, all the teachers put on a huge amount of work, like this week we finish all the stuff for old man and the sea, since we are studying everything and learning genetics, math is always a bit of an issue, i have things that my friends requested (helping make a card game because im an ok draw-er and have good ideas)
and then i have the stock for the .22 rifle that im working on. so actually have some problems. i also really screwed up my arms, i accidentally slid down a tree so my arms hurt when i lift something heavy or something touches my arms. the good news is i have a fire extinguisher and the finished (but fugly) block of hdpe. hopefully ill make something to please all of you.

Lack of money in an understandable dilemma and unfortunately, it sticks with all of throughout our lives. Time or lack there of is different. If you can't control when you have some free time, then you are not in control of your life. Always take charge of your life and make time for yourself. Don't use lack of time as and excuse for failing to do something you want to do or you regret it someday.
Good luck to you.

I have bad teachers for that part, usually they don't even know the homework they are gonna give. And usually chores around the house take time.
