Nah, he'll probably tell you

Btw, expect some acid etching on future parts, I need a "maker's mark" too ;)

This is probably my most photographed project to date but bear with me as I'm close to declaring it finished and putting it aside.

I redid the ring etching using masking tape as a resist, giving a much better defined result, and made a cap for the schrader, using a stippled etch which created just the effect I was after.

I hate this for being more about visuals than function, on the other hand I can't stop polishing it.

Once the blackener arrives I'll use it to highlight the etchings then it's consigned to display and I can move on :)

JSR, it looks beautifull, butt still try the beeswax method with very mild acid, the surface is going to be very smooth then, and remember to use very sharp metal or wooden needle to make the patterns. for beeswax, to get beautifull text i have been using the old-kind ink pens, you know those that you dip into ink. just solder the tip together and start writing :)

Thanks guys.

Jake, I have some beeswax on order :) tried candle wax ---> fail

Do you just heat it till it melts and dip the part in?

For the valve cap I simply masked off both ends, then stippled the uncovered area with nail polish and chucked the whole thing into a HCl/H2O2 solution for a couple of hours, really happy with the effect.

Can't wait for that blackening solution to arrive and call this finished!

You could've asked me for beeswax.... unless you have a supply in epoxyland...

I had ordered some from eBay, less expensive than bothering to go to shop these days...

On a side note, any word on that piston? Should arrive any day now.

Though you might get MOAR orders if you replace the blade with something less sharp and rounder

:D

Actually acid etching would be an extremely nice way to identify your paperweight ;)

You could make it look like the needlessly complex bullet from "Wanted" ;)
