A nicer way to install a Schrader valve

Hi,

I had this idea: Put a Schrader valve into some 1/8" / 1/4" NPT hardware, instead of installing it directly into a plastic cannon chamber.

Direct installation is probably OK if done well (unless you install it from the inside of the chamber, you need to remove all the rubber on the valve, or drill an oversize hole. The OD of a Schrader is 7.7 mm), but I don't like designs relying on epoxy seals. They have cracked for me when stumbling over the air hose or whatever.

The recipe is: Get a 1/4" female to 1/8" reducer bushing, and get a Schrader valve. The valve is screwed into the 1/8" thread from the 1/4" side of the bushing: Cut off the big rubber ball, and grind down the rubber around the foot of the Schrader so that it can just be jammed into an 1/4" male to 1/4" male nipple. It should not be necessary to touch the rubber around the neck of the valve - that will help seal agaist the 1/8" thread.

Screw the Schrader into the 1/8" to 1/4" bushing, head first, from the 1/4" side. Screw it in as far as it will go (hold with pliers).

Screw the nipple on the bushing, using teflon tape as usual.

Drill hole (11 mm in Metric) in gun (thru 2 layers of material), tap and screw in the valve assembly. Seal with whatever you prefer.

If later wanting to install a quick disconnect or a hose adapter, just screw off the bushing.

Well putting my thing into a 1/4 to 1/8 reducer is too clumsy.

All I can thing of is to look for an 1/8 pipe with a thread in one end .. and bang the valve into that.

If all else fails, and you want to test NOW, heat a piece of hose and get the valve into that. But it will fail after some time.

The nipples are chrome or nickel (how do you tell the difference?) plated brass.

I went a step further. You can just buy Schraders that already have 1/8 and 1/4 NPT. They are sold with water pump systems. Try really looking at all the water system fittings in home improvement stores. I have a hard time believing they are only available in Canada.

You can also get Schraders with an 1/8" fitting at your local O'Reily Auto Parts store.

nice way of mounting as s/valve far more reliable and safer than pushing it in or epoxy on rubber

Good method but could be easyer... you need a basic shradervalve from a tire with a nut
get a reducer inside tread+outside thread cut a rubber ring from your tire and put it around
the bottom of the valve. it has a metal ring around it so you can't push it out of the fitting because of the ring is bigger... and the rubber seals the bottom ring against the fitting thighten up the nut and it 100% leak free.. at 16 bar TESTED

One other method of getting your schrader valve is going down to your local les schwab and asking how much the all metal screw in schrader valves cost. usually they'll just take you back and hand you one. those are nice and easy to install into the chamber just need a 3/8 drill bit and pop it in and put the washer and nut on. they even have a rubber bushing on the base to seal it up all nice and willie. hell they even come with a valve cap.

Nay, you can find them in the US as well, or at least in California. Try looking or asking for "Sump Pump Repair parts" and you'll find them.

i have completely striped the rubber from a schrader...and solderd it into many finds of fittings.....seals a treat....and it compact

I've never really understood why people go to all the trouble of jury-rigging shrader valves when they could just use easily available quick connects and save themselves a lot of trouble.
