I had an other idea of how to trigger a burst disk. I was looking at a pen and i realised, "What if I use this concept to pop a burst disk?" Basically, you would manually push a nail through the barrel wall and pop the burst disk, you could angle the nail and use it as a trigger.

You have to have the pen, nail, whatever mounted somehow, else it will just shoot out. I did something like this but it was a safety thing for my first propane cannon. If the pressure was too great it would throw the nail out. Prolly not the best of ideas (my part, not yours)./

But im sure your on a roll to something

I imagine the air could just leak out of the hole you've created without the disk actually bursting.I guess it depends on the material

I was discussing this with a friend and he suggested using a nail gun. I also need to know if muliple nails would help. I've heard that razors do a pretty good job.

If I were to make a burst disk pneumatic, I'd put an electromagnet (like the solenoid in sprinkler valves) in the chamber, that when powered would push two perpendicular blades into the disk. The electromagnet is not affected by pressure and provided the blades and magnet are as light as possible, it can accelerate them to a suitable speed to trigger the disk.
I'd also use a material that's not very elastic for the disk.
