ok pictures first.
ok, now lets see if i can put it into words...
working from outside in.... The chamber will be inside a chamber. The outside chamber will always have a constant supply of air, the inside chamber will house the piston and barrel.
On the inside chamber there will be a track that looks like a bunch of z ontop of eachother, the piston will have nobs that go in the track that will also be hollow for air to get in ... in the track in the inside chaber there will be slits to allow air into the piston through the nobs.
The slits in the inside chamber will only be on the part of the track that the nobs are in when the pilot area is filling in ... not when the gun is discharging.
the piston will also need to be an airtight fit with the chamber so that air doesnt go everywhere, during firing.
with this designe the piston does rotate inside the chamber...
i hope you understand this... let me know what you think, and if its even possible to build in the average garage...
Semi Auto Piston Gun (Yes another one :P ) complex?

FIrst reply!! lol
well i love the idea acualy. only probs o could see
1-must keep piston and nobes lubricated
2-when air is being filed back into the chamber the nob will mostlikely justgo strait back up instead of to the next "angled" track the nob would go on.
3-very compley to back, minor track inconsistancys such as being curced at the same angle would be common with this plan
4-the twoo chambers would probably use less of you compressed air if you had a way for it to auto equalize pressure behind and infront of the barrel (mabey a opening closing vent tube?)
what i would add...
1-a auto feeding tube attached to somwhere on the barrel (would be dificult but not imposible)
2- light springs that are angles to push the piston to the right but only pust when it is coming back while firing (would be very dificult!!)
LOve that your thinking! keep up the good ideas!

This idea would work if you could machine everything to the tolerances required for it not to leak. If you could build it, it would be an amzing good idea, but I think the main problem would be snagups on the rotating mechanism. Perhaps a long stroke at a more acute angle?
yea i didnt really spend much time on the track, i was trying to get it out of my head on paper (paint/gimp) before i forgot it. but if you click on it to make it bigger there are "gates" that stop it from doing what you said zeig but i didnt put much thought on the design of those.
Im glad too see some people like it... would anyone here be able to make it? mabey with some more precise plans?
EDIT:: i actually got the idea from those pens that you can click to open and close(did that make sense) but i had to modify it a bit.

I believe you may find this helpful.

Theres 3 different patterns you could use for your track near the middle of the page.

i updated my design to include a clip to make it truly semi auto. I forgot to change the pattern in the chamber for the piston to follow, might do it later.
So here it is:
unless you click on it and view it full size it'll look a little screwed up.

the more acute the angle the more reseistance to the piston moving. but yeah definetly more acute or some linda wind up thing or spring mechanism to help it along.drac wrote:This idea would work if you could machine everything to the tolerances required for it not to leak. but why do you have it acualy having physical contact with the ammo? why not make it a piston desighn with the air pressure aroudn the barrel, becuase then you have to worry about that rod that hits the ammo being air tight.
also i don't remember if this was coverd at all but how are u getting so much ar it so rapidly again?
