I've tried this type of breech in a gun (that can't be discussed because of forum rules)
without any rubber seal it was airtight!!! just metal to metal.I think it's because the way the barrel rotates..it can apply a lot of force onto the seal.
When done correctly it will "jam" shut, not needing anything to keep it closed.
break barrel breach loading?

You could have a repair coupling behind the break with a spring behind it. The hinge that the barrel is attached to could also have a spring to open it when the repair coupling is pulled back.
One sec and I'll make a diagram...

Crazykid, take a look at mine, it's similiar to Brian's but with a few twists to make it work on a pneumatic. http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/goats-gun-t7859.html
Any questions just ask me.

Here are the mods I propose:

- The green repair coupling is foreward, but when the barrel is pushed down the angle of approach will cause the coupling to be pushed back untill the barrel is fully closed, at which point it will move forward and lock onto the barrel under the spring's pressure

- Closed, the green repair coupling is pushed foreward over the barrel by the orange spring. The orange spring at the hinge is in tension and will cause the barrel to spring up when the black bolt is pulled back (moving the repair coupling back)

A screw type coupler isn't needed to make it air tight but it does simplify the building and alignment. The type in the diagram will work but won't be as air tight as a screw on.
Crazykid,Nerf footballs are always fun for a 2" barrel.Or the old fashioned Spud
