The suburbs suck. :( Does anyone know if a regular red potato could punch a hole through a shed? (sheet metal)? My friend said he shot it and when it came down it hit his neighbors shed and blew a hole through the top of it.

The suburbs are the awesomest (i dont care this is my word) for spudding.

You can do bombardments and can do cool stuff like shooting at night on the streets with people driving past and stuff.ITS AWESOME.And for all those BBMG junkies out there.hello street fight city.

Agreed.
I haven't seen spuds go through even "mere" 1mm thick steel blasted directly at the stuff from point blank range.

Well, the file doesn't have that problem for me (I assume you unzipped it?). Regretably, and I don't have a copy of the original any more - my copy isn't currently suitable for recirculation (It's got odd equations and stuff all over it)

Well, V3.0 beta should be out very soon, so you can use that when it's done.

...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

Spudguns aren't spoilt for power like powder burning artillery is, the pressures involved are far too low to send something with such a poor aerodynamic shape and ballistic coefficient of a potato to an impressive distance.

Think of it this way, if you were building a car and you only had a lawnmower engine for power, you wouldn't make it weigh a ton and make it in a box shape - on the contrary, since your engine is limited, you try to make the most of what you have by making it as lightweight and as aerodynamic as possible.

The same applies to spudguns, there's only so much "oomph" we can get from our launchers so in the interests of performance, we can't afford to waste any of that power needlessly on combatting air resistence. True, the vegetable lends our hobby its name, but to consider it as some sort of standard would stunt the scientific advancement of our passtime. On the other hand, spudding shouldn't be taken *too* seriously, but personally I've never fired anything organic out of my designs.

actually i find it way more fun than shooting guns or real black powder weapons. its a relatively cheap hobby, you can shoot a far larger variety of projectiles, it always lends itself to having a laugh, and you can design and build you gun. thats the fun of it for me. it seems more competitive than explosive powered weapons. the only competition in those is accuracy it seems like. nobody cares about a high velocity (they all have it lol), or distance.

I hope to god you're not firing your cannon at houses or even in the general direction of a house, private property, human beings or anything that you can't see.

Always inspect the location you are shooting your gun and even if you know your cannon can shoot say 150m make sure you have a 200m field/open space so you can see anything that comes on to your battlefield.

People that fire their guns in general directions of houses/private property and get yeld at by their neighbour and/or threatened by the police then come on here bragging and boasting about it are the worse spudders for our community. They are the people that get this type of hobby banned for everyone.

hey guys. Im new to spud cannons but Im loving every minute of it. I built my first combustion cannon about a month ago and it has a 1.5"er on it. I prefere this over the 2" that I used before hand.

Also what fuel do you use, at first I used butane but have moved onto starter fkuid as it has ether in it and sends the potatos further
cheers

A good "spray n' pray" fuel if you dont have the time or money for a propane meter is simply propane expelled from a blow torch. It's cheaper than rightguard or carbstarter, and it's actually unusual to have a misfire (since torches mix air with the fuel).
