no you are not... the recoil on a spring powered air gun is both in an opposite direction to the recoil experienced on a traditional firearm or PCA/PCP airgun and is more 'sharp' thus it damages scopes more than recoil from quite powerful firearms

even if a springer has a muzzle energy of 15 J or so it can damage scopes more than a rifle

Agreed, the thing about springer recoil is not so much the force but the "whiplash" effect of the piston hitting the end of the cylinder, bouncing, striking it again etc. It's these sudden changes in direction that make them so unpleasant to crosshairs.

You're quite welcome to buy airgun scopes that can't deal with harsh recoil if you choose. That's your choice.
Based on former experience, my choice however is not to waste money on one again.

@ inonickname: The darts, at the core of their design are like Jack's old suggestion.
The sabot will be kept as light as possible, hopefully no more than a half gram. The intent is for it to be a PVC disc, as thin as it can feasibly be and still take the forces involved.

It's a project I've probably spent more time on than it's worth. I'm probably never going to fire more than a handful of these darts, because they're hard to make and can only be used under very specific circumstances.

As a part of their design brief, these things are designed to fly fast, flat and straight, and woe betide whatever they happen to hit.
Not something that can be used anywhere.
