Personally, I'd look at the idea of a bullpup design to give a longer barrel length in the same package. A larger calibre than the "standard" .32 wouldn't go amiss either.
A .45 ACP 'pellet' maybe? I do like the idea of the bull pup. When Caselman made his design they weren't what a 'machine gun should look like'. The internals were nice, though.

How about half inch balls used in muzzle loaders? That way you could avoid the incriminating rifled barrel :)

By the way, here's an example of a powerful launcher that can be from standard fittings. Granted it's not what I'd want to face an AK with but perfectly capable of launching heavy objects far enough to act as a deterrant.

Yeah, but a lack of rifled barrel would severely limit the ranged effectiveness. Yeah, we're not talking crazy ranges, but as they're likely to start firing back, I'd rather like to be capable of reliably hitting them.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

That orange going through the reinforced window is proof enough that you can launch your lunch at them and make a difference...

Put the knife and fork in there, too. :D

No, no, no... That's a mixing pipe. Darned inspectors don't know engineering parts from a hole in the ground.

Don't build a cannon, just station one spudder on the ship.

The great thing about air cannons is that you can shoot everything that fits in your barrel. With a roll of toilet paper you can use basically any industrial part as ammo.

Do you really think it would make a difference on a pneumatic submachinegun firing heavy slow projectiles? I figure you could easily put a 5 round burst on a man sized targets at 50 metres with a smoothbore barrel, assuming it's very tight.

It's worth noting that the window was well over 100 yards away and 30 yards up ;) who needs golf balls hehe

Sounds like a plan! The most dedicated seem to have an uncanny ability to look at pretty much anything and figure out how to turn potential energy into kinetic energy :D

"Uhh I got killed by an orange..."

From my experience, I must disagree.

Worth pointing out that as a supposed "spudder", that launcher was the only one I ever used to fire groceries out of  I've never actually launched a potato

From my experience, I must disagree. My new cannon fires 1.250" steel ball bearings through a 72" long x 1.251" smooth bore at 1,000psi. Range and accuracy are quite impressive.
How accurate??? I can hit a zombie sized target pretty consistently now with the Decimater at 100yds, but after that the balls curve in abstract directions due to magnus effect...

Pipers Precision Products people... :D
Getting hit by a continous stream of bb's at a rate of 50 a second tends to throw you off balance...

Mr.Porter, HPA source, breech loader and unions..
They will not be able to see a thing if you hit something on their boat...and not able to do much else if you hit them directly..

I would say an aerosol can of polyurethane foam would make a nice anti pirate projectile (as long as you hit the boat).

It increases it's volume extremely fast and is an absolute mess.

wow BTB...suppressive fire with BBMGs... hmm btb that sounds like a solution...

with high pressure air source and heavy ammo this thing could be quite effective

Honestly, all of the pirate attacks I have heard of resulted in the release of the captives. They were unarmed. If you start shooting at pirates with an ineffective weapon, they are going to fire back with RPG's and AK-47's. This will lessen your chance of survival from an already bad situation. Those 2 weapons alone wreak havoc to modern militaries in close quarters yet you can somehow supress them with a glorified spud gun. Laughable indeed.
I think they should train dolphins to ram the boats. They can attach metal spikes to their noses so they poke holes in the pirate ship. I bet that works better than a spud gun.
