Who wants cannons in CAD?

well then do i have a suprise for you!!!!!

I have recently aquired a CAD program that i know how to use pretty well. I usually do paintball designs in it but I was thinking "man, i could design spud guns in this"

So i'm gonna do it, only one little snag. I need some extremely detailed measurements off of fittings. fittings with simple angles will be easy (stuff like wyes, cross wyes, tees, bull head tees, 90's, etc.) but for stuff like sanitary tee's, I simply don't have the measurements i need.

if any of you guys have the drawings with measurments for the parts in any size then let me know.

I can also draw up cannons for you if you let me know the basic lay out that you want so you can see it before you build it!!!!

Making "blocks" are you? No drawings, sorry. :(

What are you using? I have an old (but FULL) version of Autocad.

Do you do any work with CAM? Any CNC software?(Mach 3?)

I am using AutoCad 2009 (I have tried inventor and such but autocad is easiest for me to use)

Alas no, I am actually in the military but I do have very easy access to CNC and such.

I was thinking of designing a 6 shot revolver style cylinder mounted on an M2 style reciever for multi-shot capability

Sounds, rather interesting! :)

This might be of use to you.

It says they are working on an AutoCad cd. Might make it even easier.

Gawd forbid they draw it up themselves. There are several CAD publishers out there who offer free demo versions. Yeah, they're short a feature or two, but they're still quite capable of doing 99% of what anybody around here does and a HELL of a lot better than using the paint programs that seem to be popular here (WTF does anybody use them?)

Personal favorite (because I use the full version at work): http://www.alibre.com

hey man, it gives me something to do (I absolutely fucking love CAD) and it gets rid of a bunch of those shitty paint drawings that you hate.

I haven't seen an autocad demo but i didn't really look

Don't you go knocking paint!

Paint is something I can STILL use sunday morning. :occasion5:

CAD is for the REST of the week. :)

LMAO, I can't use paint for shit!

I am pretty sweet with my cad though

Paint isn't hard. It's just time-consuming. Hence the expression, "This took me ten-thousand hours in MS-Paint!"

I imagine that it's because people have Paint handy, and that it doesn't take much understanding to work it.
I don't normally use any programs, I normally do it in my head, because I've got the kind of weird mutant brain that allows that.

Sometimes I'll throw together something in a cheapo graphics program called Drawplus (a few steps up from paint) if I need other people's opinions, or if I want to knock up a quick animation, because it can do that with no real effort... but CAD doesn't get much use unless I really need it.

3vo (HEAL 2) is being modelled in SolidEdge (The software my university teaches and uses) because it's complicated enough that I have to do it this way to ensure I can be confident it will all fit together. Fortunately, things are looking good so far, but there are some minor tweaks I'm considering.

Now, to those people who say Paint is rubbish - you'd normally be right.
But if you're talking about the "Pixelgod" - people's jaws hit the floor, because he really is that good.

I plan on modeling just about everything i can

and if i could generate enough interest, I could get machined vortex blocks easy, hell even vortex caps made as one piece

What materials would the vortex blocks be made out of and how much would they cost. DO NOT USE POPLAR!!!! I went through a whole 2 ft of 2x2 before I got one that did not crack and splinter when my drill press was half way (or more) through. also if I sent you a can model of a valve I a working on ( it is my top secret gun, so far it is just an Idea) could you have it cut on a cnc and how much would something like that cost?

if I had more time I could do tones of stuff on Mastercam X2. Im working on a degree in Machine Tool Technology so drawing and programming parts is not only what I do for fun but what I do at work. when I do get some free time I will be making some vortex caps and blocks, and probably a lot of other airsoft and spud related stuff.

jitup having machining work is usually fairly expensive there are alot of things to watch for if you do have some done because if the guy giving you the price quote is good he will probably charge you a lot more that the part is worth. use aluminum or hpvc or a simmilar plastic.
