Without totally obliterating it with an air gun what would be the safest way of emptying a CO2 cartridge from the top?

you could get a 3/4 inch pvc tube of maybe 3 or 4 feet of length and glue an endcap on the back with a centered nail then just drop the cartridge down the pipe to hit the nail and then it would fly off like rocket
but thats just an idea
but you could just put it in an airsoft gun and dry fire...

I'd add hefty leather gloves to that list, Jack - high pressure CO2 exhaust can go through the skin and cause the equivalent of the bends.

Anyway, who said you had to obliterate it with an airgun? Tape it down, back up 10-15 metres, and aim very carefully for the end...

Done it more than a few times myself.

Surely the safest way is to just ask someone with a CO2 pistol for one of his empties?

Note to anyone who is actually thinking this may be a viable option: I know from experience that sealed end type cartridges (Crosman and similar) will explode and severely damage the microwave. Don't try this inside your house.

I have 30+ empty 12g co2 cartridges that I saved over a few years. I thought about making something to shoot them but never got around to it. If you lived anywhere near me they would be all yours.

Send me an CO2 powered air gun and the cartridges and I'd have an empty one for you in about 3 hours.

That is a nice gun. I just like something that looks like a real gun.

Plus .177 bb's are cheaper than pellets.
