it might, but dry ice is cold, and the PVC would be brittle, so you' d want a brass or steel chamber, really, its impractical, you can just have a co2 tank refilled for 5 bucks, and it would probably cost you more to buy dry ice for the cannon

5$ lol, my bro gets his filled for 10cents or free when he actualy plays paintball, then again he uses an air tank, which can hold way more psi, up to 4000 if u get the good ones :D

but then the 4000psi would burst the tank, u would need a regulator ($$$$$$$$)

BTW i am thinking about this regulator http://www.spudtech.com/detail.asp?id=54

if im not mistaken there is a regulator on the tank and pb gun, i know theres two im just not sure wher both of them are (i know for a fact one is on the tank)

back on topic
where would u get dry ice anyways? and wouldnt it be a little pricy with the compressor and all?

salad, a regulator isnt that much at all, you dont need one of those expensive 100 dollar palmer regulators, you can just use a beverage regulator, you can get them on ebay for about 15 bucks

it is the solid form of co2 but it would be no good for a spudgun because

A. it would make the pipe brittle

B. it only converts to its gas form slowly

C. it is made from the liquid form of carbon dioxide anywayso why waste yout time making it???

Dry ice is pretty cheap and you can by it at any grocery store or walmart. I pretty sure you cant make it your self either first of all where would you get the CO2 from and second you would need a super cold frezer because it freezes in alot colder tempertures then you freezer can go. It would be cool to make a spudgun that use dry ice but impratical considering how long it would take to shoot every time.

Get hydrogen dioxide(drug store aka pharmacy) and manganese dioxide (black stuff in an alkaline battery) and mix the two to get gas, it works but taking apart a battery is a pain, cuz acid will squrt, i am not kidding, i got sprayed once, weak but never the less burns like hell.

k- this might sound like a dumb idea but... there was a darwin award (anyone read these?) about a guy who got his "reproductive organs blown off" when he mixed dry ice with hot water in a pop bottle (attempting to make it explode after he had thrown it) so i guess it must have happened pretty fast -- and a steel chamber would take care of the brittle thing right? btw... has anyone seen this? http://balloonbazooka.com/ how on eath does it cost $100 with just a ball valve???

milty, he mixed it in a soda bottle, which people have used in cannons to about 125psi, most steel fittings would start leaking like crazy after about 100psi, and steel is also brittle, though it is stronger. still you would have no way to stop the pressurization of it after you've added hot water, it would just keep going until there was no dry ice left. and for the balloon bazooka thing, it doesnt cost the manufacturer that much to make it by any stretch, they're pulling in some good cash from it, thats why its 100 bucks

if you can't controll it forming the gas, how can this guy controll it, he said he waits 6 secs for the right pressure somewhere, but what if it bursts, now i wouldnt try that. but the cannon is still cool.

He can't cause it to sublimate on que - what's he's doing is keeping the valve open when he's not interested in firing. He closes the valve to allow the pressure to build - not the best idea if you don't have a pop-off valve to prevent the pressure from going too high. (boom)

hmm ballon bazooka eh? maybe i should make one...wait i still dont have a spud cannon lol!

well, dry ice, overall seems impractical
  • hard to get (well ive never seen anywhere that sells at least, no grocery stores...)
  • costly, especialy with compressor
  • takes a while to build up pressure
  • pressure wouldnt be that much would it???
well theres my perspective on things
