Here are my shot gun loads. The half shell holds 12 rounds and the full shell holds 24. I've also pictured my grenade shell.I don't use them exclusively for paintball.Dumping a bag of Snap and Pops in the shell is fun,Marbles, rocks, and smoke grenades also work out good

This is quite simple and efficient. Wish I could try it but my cannons are now unusable.

This is brilliant! Thank you for sharing.
(Before you flame me
for calling this brilliant with a "oh i can do better. Unless you share your idea its means nothing
)
Just one question what diffrentiates the Grenade from the Mortar in how its works?
Also how effective has this been for you?

The shotgun cartridges I assume are what you are calling the mortar? Well they are made to fit a 1 1/2" barrel where as the grenade shell is for a 2" barrel. The Grenade shell just holds the grenade off of the barrel wall and allows it to slide w/o dragging(falls off as it exits the barrel). If the grenade drags it will explode in the barrel. The shotgun load was designed to hold a pattern. These fall off at about 5 feet.Don't shoot anything close!
Both have been very effective the shotgun loads hold a nice tight pattern(1' spread at 75').The grenade shells are excellent I can usually get 3 shots out of one shell before it is junk.

Thank you. But what do you use for grenades - water ballons filled with ?

nice idea have you tried filling the shotgun shell with BB's i wonder how well that would work against a poor defenceless can
with the grenade shell what exactly is the grenade that you are firing?

You can use the bouncing betty commercial grenades or you can build your own(what I use).Look up how to build paintball grenades,Youtube has a vid somewhere. Look under "paintgrenade tutorial" or something of that sort. Water balloons will work but use 2 cups end to end instead of the TP roll. When you fill the ballon fill it with 2 oz. of paint.I use a big syringe to measure and fill the ballons. The down sides to balloons are that they have very little splash compared to grenades and break in transport.Of course they are way cheaper and easier to make. All in what you want.

To true with commercial grenades. Its gets too expensive. I will brainstorm and make soem tests over the summer I will post results as I test. Thanks again.

Wannabie,no i haven't used BB's that would be WAY to heavy to get any speed. The tube would weigh a full pound.Nothing besides a "SWAT" sized cannon could propel the cartridge enough to do anything of consequence.

I think he meant airsoft BBs. Metal BBs are too heavy, but biodegradeable 6mm .2 grams are light enough to do the job. I have already tested them in the new launcher I built (this will be posted once I improve the sliding barrel system).

Um, I know this post is old, but could you help me with a cartridge design for my cannon?
This is it:
and this is the barrel:
It just runs on cheap dollar store body spray (the #1 ingredient is butane) and the red button is a grill starter. The barrel is 1 1/2" and the muzzle is 2". could you explain a little more on how your cartridge works?

I generate 1.5" sabots using this same method and small dixie cups (5oz). The only thing I do different is I use construction paper instead of toilet paper rolls (takes a little more time but I don't poop enough to have a bunch of the toilet paper tubes) It works very nicely and, if the directions are followed, there should be no problem.
Something else that makes my sabots easy to use is the fact that my cannon is breech loaded and uses shells (the sabots are preloaded into the shells). Check out the
BECC. My cannon is very similar.
