the big bang
ok well ive been wanting to do this for a while and now i finally am going to. what you ask well ill tell you..
tomorrow when i get home from work im going to take one of my old spud guns wrap it in 1-2 blankets tie it to a few cinder blocks and fill it with co2 until it explodes. the reasons are listed below..
1. research
2. to find the burst pressure of a 1 year old gun that use's dwv fittings.
3. cause its just going to be so cool.
4. the co2 that ruptures the gun will nourish the lake im putting it it.
the safety precautions are.
1.extra long hose so i can be away from it.
2. high pressure hose so the hose dosnt burst.
3.wrapping in blankets so any pieces that feel the need to launch at me will get stopped or dramatically slowed but the fabric.
4. im sinking it in a lake then exploding it just like the do hydro testing except im not filling it with water.
i will be video taping it so you can all watch to.
the only thing that could rupture before the tank is the sprinkler valve or the brass fittings connecting all the hoses and gauges. but i don't plan to make it past 200 psi anyway.
you can leave feedback now.

WOW I'd like to be there for that, but only if I were behind bullet proof glass! That'll make one heckuva noise! I wonder about the legality though, as the old favorite, dry ice bombs, are illegal where I live...

Sounds dangerously cool!
well thats a main reason im putting it under water is to suppress allot of the noise.. and it will only be about 5-6 feet deep. would that make that big of a difference?

I don't know, I just meant the size of the explosion (with the video). Whatever you decide to do, just be safe.
ok. well the man thing i want to do is get the burst pressure of it. will water being inside of it affect that at all? or will water being it it cause the outside water pressure to be equal?

Could you take the sprinkler valve off and put a plug in it's place?

I get the feeling that blankets may not cut it. Use a video camera and hide behind a plywood shield or something.
