Parts:
1 2 Liter bottle
2 Pringles cans
Cotton balls
Packaging Tape

I drilled a hole in the bottom of the pringles can just big enough to get a 2 liter connector (without a cap) to fit. After it was in, I screwed the cap on from the inside of the can to secure it. After removing the bottom of another can, I packaging taped the entire contraption together.

Using a 3/8" drill bit, I put a hole just big enough to fit a BIC lighter inside. Works like a charm.

Tennis balls are a little small, so I wrap one in cotton balls, then packaging tape the cotton balls on so it fits snugly.

While fireing, it stays in the air for maybe 5 seconds. Could be better for sure, but at least it's loud :).

I used purple aquanet (sprayed into the lighter hole) as a propellant.

This is not my first cannon, I have a few Pneumatics, and PVC combustion guns I'll be posting over the next few days.

I have 3 similar guns that proved to be a bombs as well :) see the failure analysis thread. Two exploded immediatly, and the other took probably 20 shots (until hairspray chemicals worked the glue from the tape)

I like the ignition "system". I think thats the way that the original spudgun was fired. The packing tape makes it look shiny. :D :D :D

Not actually the first recycled cannon we've made. (I'm the guy in the pics)

I'm usually the one firing them until he's sure they're safe, so I've been the person firing when each of the guns fails. =D

In the failure analysis thread, he has posted pics of a gun where the back (which was a UTC pretzel container) shattered and blew out. It used duct tape, which worked a lot better than this one, because Giant was out of duct tape so we used some clear packing tape.

We also made two others which were just a metal barrel (legs of an old, broken pinball machine) taped to 2 liters bottles. One got soggy from the hair spray, so the tape lost grip and the 2 liter flew backwards when we fired it (luckily, I had the back end pointed over my shoulder) and with another the barrel was two 2 liters taped together and the tape failed and blew the back end off.

Also, another modification for the gun in the pics, we took plastic cups and cut the bottoms off so that the lids can be dropped down the barrel and are close to airtight. Then, we dropped tennis balls in on top of the cup bottoms and fired, which worked really well. We had to retrieve the cup bottoms each time, but they didn't go that far, and we can now use any tennis ball in the barrel.

PS - and no, neither of us is named zach

Very "interesting" indeed. Makes my "recycled" cannon look like a gold plated .44 Magnum!
