Soda bottles can blow up at anytime. It all depends on if the bottle has a small defect in it or not, due to manufactring prosess. If you pressure a bottle with dry ice ,you dont have to pop it with a bb gun..If there is a microscopic defect in the plastic the bottel will still hold what ever pressure the soda will have on it. It only becomes dangerous when you exceede soda pressure..(but Im no expert) just very cautious..

I still think they can cause a fair amount of damage. You may of heard me saying that a few years ago in NZ a boy had a bottle of coke (600ml) next to him in the car and it somehow exploded sending loads of plastic shards into his body, some of which had to be surgically removed.

Sounds very odd, drinks bottles are not brittle things, on their own they shouldn't have any worse failure than a single split.

I've had cans of beer and a can of ginger beer (?) explode in my hands before... not too long ago at that either. By which I mean they were full, unopened and just waiting for me to pick them up so they could rupture and leave me covered in their contents...

If that happens one more time in the next few months I'm going to have a dam good whinge at someones whinge department til they pay me to go away...

Yeah it was odd. Got decent news coverage but I can't find any archives. If I recall correctly the bottle was full and unopened just bought from a petrol station. Heat was a possible factor I think.

i have made dry ice bombs out of pretty small bottles.

what i found out:
if you use dry ice the bottle become really brittle and shatters. i found three piesec at most.
when they blow they make the grass under the bottle turn into a little dirt crater.
if you use a big bottle you totally blows the grass (or what it should be) of the ground etc.
if the bottle dont blow and you wait it out for a week it looks like a ballon and has no pressure in it due to the bottle expanding.

short: don't play with pressures over 10psi in bad chambers or you will get some bad cuts.

there are A LOT more people than you think that use 2L bottles for a chamber. I prefer to go with pw pvc at the very least, and copper if I can, but that's just me. There's probably a 2L bottle gun every few weeks at the least. Just gotta pay attention lol

If it's not the mosquito, it'll be a dodgy pellet, and if it's not the pellet, the wind will have done something or the barrel needs cleaning... people can always find an excuse for a missed shot. :P

I admit when I've screwed up, because after all, I have to trust my equipment, and blaming it for my mishaps doesn't imply that I do - so it's not good practise to get into doing so.

And in the real world, there are distractions. My shooting ability is not defined by the best I can do, it's defined by what I actually do.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

i dont think it counts as a miss seeing as i didnt mean to fire........ if i had meant to fire and i missed that from that close i think i would have shot myself in the foot as a punishment........

A guy from the french spudgun forum had a Coke bottle blow up, and did permanent damage to his hearing (hears ringing at night) and cuts on his hands.

Even if the bottles tend to tear instead of fragmenting, one can assume being hit in the face by the cap or filling valve would still be painfull.

Dry ice bombs have quite a bit of water in them so there is a smaller volume of compressed gas released.

I just wouldn't trust soda bottles at spudgun pressures, they are just too close to the burst pressure.
