Propane Pressure Regulator

One thing I am wondering myself is that some of the really basic propane "regulators" appear to be nothing more than ball valves internally.

Meaning that the exhaust pressure will blow out at that pressure but if you were filling a vessel ,it seems like it would build up to the normal pressure only slower????

BTW I was looking at them because I am interested in using propane tank (on my belt like canteen sort of)
Connected by hose into the handle of a BBMG.
I want to regulate the pressure so it won't build up in the cloud or vortex chamber if it jams.

There are also types of regulators that leave only flow trough, but no pressure. I once had to use one of those and broke it while "modding" it with a grinder. Then I bought another one and modded it with a big nail, destroying some internals, and it worked to give pressure

I bought what I thought to be a pressure regulator. I think I may have the wrong idea about what this thing is supposed to do.

I was under the impression that I could set the regulator's pressure to let's say 40 psi. Then the segment of pipe after the regulator would reach 40 psi and then the regulator would cut off pressure completely from the tank. The thing I bought just slows the pressure down and has a pressure guage. It will still build up to as high as the tanks pressure.

Am I way off thinking the pressure would stop building up? Is there a regulator that does what I was thinking it would do.

That looks like it should work as a regulator.

Make sure its on the right way. It may leak when its put in reverse.
Make sure the male threaded part connects to your tank and the female to whatever needs your regulated output.

Also note that this thing isnt made to regulate propane. Its made for air. Though I think it should work just fine.

Ok, good enough, I guess! That is the way i have it assembled in my meter. It is holding pressure fine. Thanks.
