4 hours from now I'm going camping with my kid's Boy Scout troop (I'm one of the "leaders").

We're camping at 8,000 feet altitude.

I just checked conditions....

5-7 FEET of snow on the ground.

Weather forecast for the weekend?

*RAIN* Saturday, turning to snow on Sunday.

WTF is wrong with me? Why would I do this to myself voluntarily?

Hey i once went camping wit my mates at school we had -2°C at 2000m above sea in a tent for 2 and we where 7. we where all in boxers and most needed a piss. At 1 the tent was blown away and we where seven guys, freezing, pissing our selves, in boxer shorts. I really needed to take a *hit and ended up sh**ing next to the girls tent which woke them up...ah
Next mornign we got praage but the camp people ran out of milk so it was made from mlk powder and water and looked like what a guy makes when he gets very exited...after we had a 12 hour hike back to our main camp. I being an ambitous hike was tryign to get peopel to walk inorder to reach the camp before sun down.
Ah isnt nature great :D :D !!!
Oh and next year i have the same thing with two days out doors at 2500meters.

Haha have fun out there. At least bring a cannon so your kiddies will have something to do. (And possibly bring home some food  )

Sounds like a reschedule should be in order on this one. The scouts are supposed to be tough, but this sounds a little beyond the call of duty, so to speak.

To be fair, the theme of this trip is cold weather survival (no tents allowed!). They do it every year... This year the weather just happens to be a bit nastier than normal.

cold weather survival
Sounds more like "freezing my a$$ off" survival..
Why can't they put you in a walk in freezer for 12 hours?

do they get tarps? do you get a tent?

You should go to Walmart and buy a bunch of those "hot hands" hand warmers, they are 3 for $1. Or a few catalytic zippo heaters

wow sounds like fun, my friend's a scout, and he brings back stories like when a fat kid capsized their food-canoe and they had to make do fishing using their hands. (not sure if tht one's true)

When I was growing up the local boy scout troop called it "Operation Icicle". My friends went, I never got into boy scouts myself.
